After 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg posted a string of smiling photos on her Instagram page over the last couple of days, relieved fans commented saying that the young climate activist looked much "much happier" since leaving the United States.

In sharp contrast to images of the Swedish teen delivering an emotionally-charged speech last month at the Climate Action Summit 2019 in New York, Thunberg looked relaxed and jovial in the pictures she took while touring Canada's east coast in Montreal and Quebec.

"So happy to say that the following weeks I’ll travel slowly through the North American continent, moving southwest and then eventually through South America towards Santiago. I will stop on the way and visit as many places as I can, and of course protest every Friday no matter where I am," she captioned one of the pictures.

Along with another photo, she wrote, "Yesterday I received the key to the city of Montréal by the mayor @val_plante. I am incredibly honoured by this, and so thankful for the reception I’ve been given here in Québec!‬"

In one of the pictures, Thunberg look downright content to be out amongst nature, as she went whale-watching in the Marine Mammal Interpretation Centre in Tadoussac, Québec. She could not contain her excitement after watching the "belugas" and thanked the organizers for their "hospitality and the work you do!"

Seeing her beaming in the photos, one of her well-wishers wrote: "Greta, you look so much happier now that you’re out of America. Enjoy your travels. And thank you for your intrepid Climate Crisis campaign."

Following her UN speech, where she tearfully scolded some of the most powerful world leaders present in the room, a photo of Thunberg scowling at President Donald Trump as he interacted with the press at the event went viral.
