Parker Byrd: Baseball player who had right leg amputated after boating accident faces having it cut a SECOND time
GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA: An incoming member of East Carolina University's baseball team, Parker Byrd, who had his right lower leg amputated following a horrific boating accident that left him severely injured, will undergo further surgery on the same leg where doctors need to remove a part above the knee.
Byrd, who graduated from Scotland County High School in June, had undergone numerous surgeries since the accident on Bath Creek on July 23. He was airlifted from Bath to ECU Health Medical Center with serious injuries to his legs. He was one of the two people who fell off their tubes. Somehow, Byrd’s friend managed to get back on the boat, but Byrd couldn't as the ski rope got stuck in the propeller which then pulled Byrd towards it. He was hit by the propeller and seriously got injured, as per NBC15.

As per DailyMail, Byrd has undergone 13 operations on his legs including the right amputation and now he is all set to have an above-the-knee amputation on the same side at some point. On his 13 surgery which took place on August 16, his mother Mitzi Lee Byrd in a Facebook post wrote, "Everything went well. Parker is back in his room, still sleeping off the anesthesia. Dr Zeri was very happy with the way the skin and tissue looked. There is still one spot over the knee that still needs healing but he said he is seeing improvements with the hyperbaric treatments. He wants to put off the reconstruction amputation a little while longer, to allow the hyperbaric therapy to heal as much as possible." She further added, "Once the final surgery is done, he will be able to start rehab. All his stitches and staples were removed today and have healed nicely. He’s even cautiously optimistic that he may not need a skin graft on his right upper leg."
The mother also shared multiple pictures after the surgery where Byrd was in all smiles after meeting his friends and family. She wrote in the caption, "Wednesday was a busy day of hyperbaric, physical therapy, and visiting with all his buddies that came back to school. He is so excited that everyone is back because he really missed those boys. He also got to see his Uncle Eric and his cousin Myles (and their crew). He told me last night that after he’s discharged, I have to take him to the team’s clubhouse in the afternoons for workouts. I guess between surgeries, hyperbaric, PT, baseball workouts, and online classes…our lives are about to get even busier. He took his first steps yesterday with a walker. His physical therapist let him do 200 feet and said today they would do 300."
