Green Day have announced on social media that their Hella Mega Tour is canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The tour, which the band headlines, will also see other headlining acts such as Fall Out Boy and Weezer having to cancel due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

The three bands wrote a letter posted by Green Day on Instagram. "Australia and New Zealand, we're beyond bummed to announce that the upcoming Hella Mega dates in November have been cancelled," they began. "We kept trying to put this piece of the puzzle together, but unfortunately it's just not possible due to the uncertainty of the government Covid-19 travel restrictions, mass gatherings and most importantly for the safety of our fans, crew and staff."

They added that "Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase." The bands concluded their message with a more personal note, saying, "We love you all and we'll be back there rocking with you at some point. Until then, stay safe."

A statement from Live Nation also cited "continuing restrictions on mass gatherings."

Fans have been quick to voice their annoyance at the cancelation. "I swear to God Himself America doesn't clean up its act I will be pissed beyond belief. I waited months to see this concert at Dodger Stadium and now I can't. I am mad," said a fan while another wrote, "So gutted that it’s cancelled not postponed. I really hope they manage to bring the tour next year." One fan said, "This tour lineup was too good to be true. 😭 DAMN YOU 2020."

Fans who were more understanding said, "Such a bummer to all affected. but it's best for everyone's health!! love you all, and i hope you all remain safe and healthy. to 2021 we go 🤟🏻" and " Hope you will come soon after this Covid is over."

The Australian and New Zealand leg of the tour follows previous cancelations of North America, Europe and Asia tour legs due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The 'Hella Mega Tour' would have seen Green Day performing in support of their 13th and latest studio album 'Father Of All...', which released in February.
