Devastating or 'DEVESTATING'? Misspelled GOP tweet in all caps sparks wild rumors: 'Is Trump secretly tweeting'
The Republican party seems to have landed itself in another soup after a tweet from their official Twitter account, misspelled the word 'devastating'. The now-deleted tweet, which spoke about the dangers and drawbacks of keeping schools closed for so long due to the pandemic. Ironically, the misspelled tweet in question contained an appeal related to education — a fact that is being targetted by trolls to ridicule the party and its followers.
The GOP tweet with the probable typographic error has also prompted opposition critics to comment on the irony — how the appeal to open up schools was only substantiated by such a basic grammatical oversight. Some of the harshest jibes came from users who presumed that the Republican party comprises of Trump's supporters only. "Trump’s supporters are as dumb as he is. That’s not just hard to believe it’s DEVESTATING," jeered a liberal user.

What did the GOP tweet say?
The tweet which was deleted following backlash and trolling has managed to live forever on the internet through screenshots that are being circulated widely.
"Keeping schools closed has DEVESTATING effects on the mental health, social and economic situation, and academic achievement of America's children. The science is in - schools can safely reopen!" read the tweet posted by GOP around 11:57 am on March 21, 2021.
Perhaps the spelling error garnered more attention since the word was highlighted in block letters and bold fonts in the tweet.
As soon as the tweet surfaced, internet users, especially the GOP critics went into a frenzy trying to troll the party proponents.
"How Devestating@GOP def needs school," wrote one user, while another added, "After 4 years of watching the GOP fawn and grovel over an orange parody of a used car salesman, I don't need more evidence that Republicans are stupid. #Devestating."
"Nope, not parody. They even put it in all caps. Dumb f**kers," a user pointed out.

A few users seemed to hold the notion that it was former President Donald Trump, known for his several slipups and outbursts on Twitter before he was banned, who was actually tweeting from the GOP account.
A Trump critic jibed, "I think Trump is secretly tweeting from the official @GOP Twitter account." Another wrote, "The tone of the email and the obvious misspelling #DEVESTATING reeks of Trump. jMO."
One user tweeted, "The @GOP HAD to DELETE the misspelled #tweet, but TOO late: It's GONE down in history, guys & gals! #Devestating much! #RepublicansAreTheProblem . #FormerGuy LOVES "the uneducated". Right.....," referring to Trump's 2016 speech in Nevada where he said he loved the 'poorly educated'.

Following the massive trolling and backlash, the GOP official Twitter account not only deleted the tweet but soon retaliated with another tweet targeting Biden - who has not held a press conference yet in his 61 days in power. In this tweet also, the fact about schools not reopening yet was highlighted.
"We have now reached 61 days without a Biden Press Conference. Each day he waits is another day he refuses to address the border crisis and children not back in schools," said the tweet.
