Hulu series on Marvel's Ghost Rider may not have taken off but he can be added as a recurring character on 'Helstrom'

Though it seems Hulu may be dropping the 'Ghost Rider' show, Marvel Television can still shop the series around to other networks and services to see if one of them would like to pick it up or, more probably, Robbie Reyes could be added to 'Helstrom' as a recurring character.

Gabriel Luna's Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider has been a fan-favorite ever since his debut in 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' and we were all quite excited when Marvel Television and Hulu announced that they would be giving Robbie his own series. Now reports have emerged suggesting that the series may end up being canceled.

Deadline reports that while Marvel’s 'Helstrom', the other half of Marvel and Hulu's 'Adventure into Fear' line of shows, is still on track, Hulu and the Ghost Rider team have reached a creative impasse that could not be resolved. According to the report, Hulu will not be going forward with Marvel's 'Ghost Rider' but they're still invested in bringing 'Helstrom' to screens.

Though this is an unfortunate development, it doesn't mean we won't have a Ghost Rider at all. For one thing, Marvel Television can still shop the series around to other networks and services to see if one of them would like to pick it up instead of Hulu. Secondly, and perhaps more probably, Robbie Reyes could be added to 'Helstrom' as a recurring character.

The 'Helstrom' series will be focusing on Daimon Helstrom and his sister Ana Helstrom, the children of a serial killer, as they track down the worst of humanity. The series is still in early development so it is possible that the writers could find a way to work the Ghost Rider into the story in a supporting capacity.

Robbie Reyes is the fourth person to carry the title of Ghost Rider in the comics. The Rider is a supernatural entity, a demonic Spirit of Vengeance that is bound to a human host and manifests itself as a skeletal figure engulfed in hellfire. Reyes is notably the first Ghost Rider to derive his powers from a supernatural car as the previous versions typically preferred to ride motorcycles imbued with hellfire and drew their abilities from a being known as Zarathos.

Ghost Rider has always been a somewhat troubled property for Marvel. The Johnny Blaze version of the character made his live-action in Sony's 2007 film 'Ghost Rider' with Nicholas Cage in the lead role. Cage reprised the role for a sequel, 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance', in 2011. Both films were critical failures.

Marvel's 'Helstrom' doesn't have an official release date yet but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
