According to reports, cops were called to the scene at around 8:40 in the evening. Clayton County police said 911 received several reports of gunfire and domestic violence. Chief Kevin Roberts said: “Initial responding uniformed patrol officers were actually met by a 12-year-old juvenile who had been shot in the face. He was able to lead them to the residence.”

Roberts stated that when cops reached the house, they were confronted by a man who had a handgun. The man reportedly fired at the officers, who fled to safety while the suspect went inside the house. The chief noted, “As he fled to the rear of the residence, he was met by tactical units that were approaching by foot. He also engaged them in gunfire, unfortunately striking two of our officers,” before adding: “Our tactical officers were able to return fire, killing the suspect.”

Laxson was rushed to the hospital after being shot, but he couldn’t survive. Another officer Alex Chandler was shot in the hand and his condition is not reportedly critical. Besides, the boy who also suffered a gunshot wound was shifted to a hospital, where he’s said to be in “stable condition”. “We were able to go to the hospital, but we were not able to speak to him,” Roberts said.

Upon further checking of the residence, cops found two women dead among “multiple victims”. However, the names of the victims have not been revealed yet. A person living in the area, Syrae Green, said, “This doesn’t really happen in our neighborhood. Our neighborhood is quiet. And for this to happen is kind of scary.” Chief Roberts said, “My heart aches for every police officer and their family. These things just shouldn’t happen.”

Reportedly, slain cop Laxson was a veteran of the Clayton County Police Department and the county's tactical team. Victor Hill, the High Sheriff at Clayton County Sheriff's Office, shared a tribute for Laxson on his Facebook page by writing: “Officer Henry Laxson was one of Clayton’s finest and unquestionably our very best. Laxson far exceeded all expectations of what an ideal police officer should be. I will greatly miss your smile young man.  Rest easy son, the brotherhood will continue the watch from here.”

The comment section of Hill’s post was filled with people’s tribute and shock over the incident. A user wrote, “Sorry to hear this..people don’t care about the living anymore! They don’t mind killing family, police or bystanders!” Another one said, “Sending my prayers and condolences to the family of the police force and immediate family I pray that God will be with you and your time of sorrow and need that he will strengthen you I will keep you lifted up in prayer.” “Even though I am with the City of South Fulton Police Department now, Clayton County poured the foundation for my success in this profession, and Clayton County will always have a special place in my heart. (Police/Sheriff). When something happens there it happens to me. Police family we must stay strong and we must stay United. Rest easy my brother. We will take it from here,” a person added.
