Former Texas pastor shoots wife and son dead before taking his own life: 'He also tried to strangle daughter'
TEXAS: Authorities in Texas are trying to figure out why a former pastor from Houston fatally shot his wife and 11-year-old son, tried to strangle his daughter, and then kill himself.
Richard Logan, 53, killed Diana Logan, 48, and their son, Aaron, at their home in Sugar Land on February 11. After committing the murders, he drove around 160 miles to San Marcos where his adult daughter goes to college and then attempted to strangle her, the police revealed.
As reported by Des Moines Register, according to Sugar Land spokesman Doug Adolph, "We’re not sure why he disengaged and left." Logan then proceeded to shoot himself at the TAS Environmental Service which is a consulting company. After the police arrived at the scene, they recovered the same gun that was used to kill Logan's wife and son.
Diana's brother Dan Winters took to Facebook to post an emotional tribute to his sister. He wrote, "On Tuesday evening, we received the devastating news that my dear sister and sweet 11-year-old nephew were killed by her husband, who then took his own life. Praise God our 22-year-old niece survived. She is nothing short of remarkable." "Our family is stunned, heartbroken, and confused... but our faith sustains us. We feel the prayers raining down on us in the form of God’s love, peace, and comfort. We are so grateful for the support of countless family, friends, and co-workers," he added.
Spokesman Adolph has not identified Logan's motives behind the murders.
While at a news conference on Wednesday, Pastor Patrick Kelley of River Pointe Church shared, "I think I share with everybody who knew the Logans a real sense of shock that this was so unpredictable. And we knew the Logans very, very well, and something like this… is just something you cannot predict or foresee."
The nonprofit organization that Logan ran also released a statement that read, "The Attack Poverty family is in shock to learn of the tragedy involving our Chief Executive Officer, Richard Logan, and his family. We are cooperating with investigators and waiting for more information as we try to process this loss with our staff, volunteers and community."
