Social media users mocked former President Barack Obama for appearing on a TikTok clip with some ‘painfully’ crafted jokes to promote the Democrat’s agenda amid the upcoming midterm election. Obama and content creator Vitus Spehar appeared in a TikTok video on ‘Under The Desk News', which provides 60-second daily wrap-ups on various topics such as current events, political analysis, and special interest stories explained as part of a last-minute vote campaign where the former President tried to encourage users to vote.

Spehar Obama sit under a desk in the scene, where the TikTok celebrity is urged to cast a ballot. In his guest appearance ‘under the desk,’ Obama urged people to register to vote and support Democrats to enact new climate restrictions, gun control laws, and expand abortion rights. Obama says in the video, “Here’s the thing: you can stay [under the desk] for now, but when it comes time for voting you’re going to have to get up. You got climate change legislation on the ballot, you got gun safety. And, when we can elect more pro-choice members of Congress, we can re-institute [sic] Roe v. Wade as the law of the land. So, you can't stay here, you're going to have to take a little bit of time to vote."

Spehar then asked Obama, “Is now a bad time to say that I voted for McCain in 2008?” “Mmm… as long as you voted,” Obama jokingly replied. As of now, over 1.5 million people watched the video on TikTok.

Many conservatives mocked Obama as "desperate" for his appearance in the TikTok video. One user tweeted, “Obama has officially joined in the Democrats’ new fool-proof plan for whenever they need to push an agenda Collaborating with TikTokers…Collaborating with TikTokers.” “Ooof this is painful,” another added. Someone wrote, "This is ridiculous😂🤣" "Omg - I thought this was a deep fake," another user added. Another user noted, "Notice Obama talks about climate change, gun safety and Roe vs Wade. These are NOT the issues over 80% of Americans are going to the polls to decide. Obama can't mention the major issues because the Dems have failed on everyone." “Obama is participating on TikTok, a legitimate national security threat,” yet another user remarked. One said, "Desperation sinking in!!"

Democrats using TikTok is, however, not a new thing. The Biden White House has utilized TikTok in the past to publicize its Covid-19 immunization program and to talk about topics like transgender medical treatment for kids. Meanwhile, Democrats are facing voter backlash in various parts of the country due to high inflation and rising crime. Therefore it is evident that the former president, who continues to be the most popular person in the Democratic Party despite leaving office over six years ago, has been trying to lend his star power to the Democrats.
