LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: The Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has been slammed on social media for showing off his "mutilated" dogs. Earlier this week, Lingard shared a series of video and photos of him playing with his dogs Creed and Cash, a Doberman and Mastiff-type breed, in his backyard. However, many of his followers spotted the 'mutilated' cropped ears of the dogs and that led to an outrage with many calling it a 'cruel' act.
The common practice of cropping the ears of dogs, such as rottweillers, is banned unless done for medical reasons by a veterinarian. In order to make the ears stand up, the droopy parts are surgically removed from the cartilage, usually using razors and no anesthesia. A dog's appearances are altered for strictly cosmetic purposes, and this surgery is considered to be quite unpleasant and needless, reported The Sun. The RSPCA condemns the technique, which is typically carried out on a young dog, as harmful to the dog's health, behavior, and welfare.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder's Instagram image, which garnered over 116,000 likes, was flooded with comments criticizing him for the brutal operation.
'Ear cropping is an abhorrent practice'
Vet surgeon rorythevet commented, "Jesse, do you understand the issues with these dogs? The reason you’re getting so many negative comments here is because these dogs have been mutilated! Ear cropping is an abhorrent practice, done simply for looks and is an incredibly painful surgical procedure with months of splinting too. I would love you to turn around and use your platform to educate people on why this is wrong, and understand that it is illegal in the uk for a very good reason!"
Another wrote, "ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL. IT’S ILLEGAL IN THE UK FOR A REASON!!". "Mutilated dogs. What a thing to be proud of. It’s an absolute disgrace to be parading around either illegally mutilated or deliberately imported cropped dogs to get," wrote another. "You have a responsibility as a public figure to not support or condone animal cruelty," a user said, adding that, "Which is exactly what you are doing with this post. I am amazed the team around you have let you make such a monumental PR mistake. Now you have taken on the responsibility for these dogs, don’t abandon them like other ‘celebs’ but you must come out with a public statement and never, ever feature them on your pages again."
A user commented, "Just cruel .. how could you do that to those dogs?" while another wrote, "Why would you have both your dog's ears and tails cropped".
There are rumors that Lingard bought the canines from Chaperone K9, a firm in Leicestershire that specializes in providing protection dogs. According to reports, a number of other football stars have started to use the same security firm after the recent spate of armed robberies targeting Premier League players.
