Steube represents Florida's 17th Congressional District and resides in Sarasota. He was initially elected to Congress in 2018 and successfully defended his seat in the two elections that followed.
Steube made news in June when he pulled out three firearms during a live Zoom session of the House Judiciary Committee, which was convened to discuss gun legislation. Steube contended that the law regulating high-capacity magazines would have unexpected consequences, and he demonstrated this by holding up his firearms while electronically participating in the hearing. "I hope that gun isn't loaded," Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said. Steube replied: "I'm at my house, I can do whatever I want with my guns," as reported by MSN.
