'Flipping 101': Tarek El Moussa helps a struggling mother-son duo flip a house and their strained relationship
'Flipping 101 with Tarek El Moussa' on HGTV is in its first season. The upcoming episode is a Mother's day special episode in which real estate entrepreneur Moussa, helps a mother-son duo with his expertise.
Junes and his mother Najia feature on the upcoming episode that is scheduled to air on April 30, at 9 pm ET/PT. In the episode, Moussa will be seen driving down to a city in Long Beach California to meet with them and help the struggling duo build their family business amidst rising tension between them, caused by a project.
The official premise of the episode reads, "A mom and son struggle to build their family flipping business when their Long Beach, CA, project causes tension between them. When contractors don't show and the duo battles over design, Tarek steps in to bring the flip and the family back together."
During the episode, Moussa will be explaining the tough realities of flipping a house. He mentions, "Flipping houses is a very stressful business and when you add family into the mix, it becomes even more stressful because of all the additional emotions that are involved," explains Moussa in a first look clip shared with MEA WorldWide.
Moussa further added that Najia was a successful businesswoman overseas who's recently moved to the states and trying to reinvent herself with her son by flipping houses. "Starting over especially in a new country is a challenge for anyone. So I am super excited to be here and really help them achieve their American dream," he explained.
Turns out Junes and Najia really needed Moussa's intervention as they reveal that they have flipped a couple of condos and a "terrible house" before. On being asked what happened with the house, Junes revealed: "We lost.. We lost 50k dollars."
When they bought that house, both he and Najia were unavailable. With him in Texas and Najia's new job as a nurse, they couldn't prioritize flipping the house and that is the reason they lost the money.
Moussa dispensed a really important piece of advice to the duo, stating: "When you deal with a house, you gotta deal with the foundation, the roof, the structure. So take that lesson and understand what went wrong and why you lost that kind of money and never do it again."
With Moussa in tow, Junes is determined to turn this around for him and his mother as he stated: "After that flop, this is our last shot to make this family business a reality.
We both worked very hard at our day jobs but we promised each other to make this an absolute priority this time around."
