Fleetwood Mac 'Dreams' tops iTunes charts after 40 years, fan boy The Weeknd backs band: 'Makes me so happy'
Legendary rock group Fleetwood Mac have recently topped the charts on iTunes and The Weeknd has shared his support to the band over their achievement on social media. The British-American rock band which hit its peak in the 1970s landed atop the iTunes charts with their 1977 smash hit 'Dreams'.
Thanks to a fan named @420doggface208, whose real name is Nathan Apodaca, the resurgence of the song (after over 40 years of its release) has a direct correlation to a TikTok video he posted which went viral across all social media. After the 'Dreams' iTunes charting, contemporary R&B star The Weekend took to his social media to voice his support for the band and the joy he felt at their new achievement. "Fleetwood mac charting makes me so happy..." the 'Blinding Lights' singer wrote on Twitter on Thursday, October 8.
The Weeknd's tweet quickly drew the attention of his fans who took the opportunity to share their happiness as well over Fleetwood Mac's success. Many fans agreed to The Weeknd's tweet. "Omg sameee," said a fan while another called him, "Goat," meaning the greatest of all time.
One fan wrote, "YES KING TASTEEEE."
The Weeknd has been rather quiet on social media as of late, and his tweet had many fans excited to see him online again. "I missed you," said a fan. Another shared, "You being active makes me sooo happyyy."
Another fan added, "You tweeting makes me so happy."
So, Fleetwood Mac certainly has a fan in The Weeknd, but for Stevie Nicks, the feelings are mutual. According to a 2017 article by T2 Online, the former Fleetwood Mac singer was very candid about her love for The Weeknd's music. "I've been listening to The Weeknd's records. I play them one after the other when I'm in my bathroom, getting ready to go out, or just hanging out with myself," Nicks said at the time. She added, "He's brilliant. And his voice, he could have come straight out of 1975, he could have been like Stevie Winwood. He's over-talented."
If you're an enthusiastic follower of The Weeknd but haven't heard the masterpiece that is 'Dreams', it's best to get on it asap because you are missing out. The song topped the charts in 1977, taking the crown at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Additionally, it featured on Fleetwood Mac's iconic album 'Rumours', which impacted the charts at No. 1 as well on the Billboard 200. In The Weeknd's home country of Canada, 'Dreams' also reached No. 1 on the RPM Top 100 Singles chart. The song has sold over a million copies.
