A suspected drug-fueled party turned deadly for five people in a Colorado apartment on Sunday, February 20, with just a lone infant and an adult woman surviving. The bodies of three women and two men were discovered at around 4 pm inside the North Range Crossing apartment complex in Commerce City, according to Police Chief Clint Nichols.

A neighbor discovered a mother alive and carrying a four-month-old child. According to the Denver Post, Ian Scott, the next-door neighbor, heard a woman crying and found the panic-stricken woman holding the baby in the apartment.

Scott told the portal that the woman appeared to be "high as a kite," and that she had given one of the victims an injection supposed to cure the effects of a drug overdose. He peered inside the flat and discovered three bodies. Scott even claimed that until the night before midnight, he had heard loud music and thumping coming from the apartment. He told the Post, "It was a party. I saw what I saw."

Reports suggest that there was no sign of violent attack or a gas leak, but an unknown chemical was discovered in the apartment, which the chief described as "illicit narcotics." According to the police chief, further testing would be required before the detectives could conclude that the substance found within was illicit substances.

At a press conference, Police Chief Nichols added, "If it's going to be illicit drugs, they were very, very bad. If it was drugs, no one was able to get to a phone and call 911 for a medical emergency. It happened pretty quickly — speculation on my part."

Nichols couldn't say whether the child's parents were among the dead, but he did say the baby is doing fine. The surviving woman is likewise 'lucid,' and she does not appear to have sustained any injuries at the site.
