Spoilers for 'FBI: Most Wanted'

The winter finale of the CBS series 'FBI: Most Wanted' was Season 2 Episode 3 'Deconflict' and boy, was it a heavy one. The case followed a man named Hewitt who had ended up robbing a couple's home and then kidnapping the woman Avery from there after shooting her husband. As the Fugitive Task Force ends up on the case, Jess LaCroix (Julian McMahon) realizes that Avery, the woman kidnapped, and Hewitt were both part of an earlier bank robbery case in 2002.

Jess was there at the time and after pursuing Hewitt, felt responsible for the pregnant officer that Hewitt had killed that day. As usual, the case was high stakes, but this time it was personal because Jess carried a huge weight on his shoulders as he has been trying to find Hewitt for a while now. On the more interpersonal relationship front — which we thankfully got this episode — we finally saw scenes with Jess and his father Byron LaCroix (Terry O'Quinn), but those were intense too.

The morning of the murder-robbery-kidnapping case, Jess sits at breakfast with his father discussing Byron's upcoming marriage to Marie Smith (Rachel York). Jess doesn't have a good relationship with his gambling-addicted father but is now worried about his daughter Tali LaCroix (YaYa Gosselin). Tali had walked in with a face of makeup, thanks to Marie and asked her father to "pick a card" which got Byron an immediate stern look from his son Jess.

Jess didn't want Tali to be influenced at all by his father, let alone allow her to get close to her grandfather. In a scene with Isobel Castille (Alana De La Garza), Jess is seen venting to her about how Marie is two years older to him and what's bugging him is that Byron is "putting on a show" for Tali — "I know how it ends," he says. Isobel, however, reminds Jess that his father might be dead sooner or later and that he should make peace with him.

When Jess got home from what was one hell of a case, after indeed catching the bad guy, he was welcome to cheer as Byron, Marie and Tali danced in the living room. After Jess notices Tali's new dress for her grandfather's wedding, he walks out and Byron follows him. While their heart-to-heart did involve yelling and not much of a resolution, we did find out that Byron didn't show up to Angeline's (Jess' wife) funeral because he  was in jail for 15 months for something "not important".

He didn't want to contact his son because Jess was grieving and he was embarrassed, but he did bring up the fact that Jess is never home for Tali. Byron tells Jess that the most Tali sees of him is the back of his head when he's walking out the door to which Jess replied, "It's more than she should know about you." So, does it look like Jess is ready to make peace with his father? For now, it doesn't look like it, but maybe future episodes in 2021 will bring us more on the LaCroix family.

'FBI: Most Wanted' is now on break and the date for the Season 2 return is yet to be released.
