A Catholic priest and a religious commentator sparked outrage on the Internet over the weekend after he shared his views on Christmas celebrations amidst the surging Coronavirus cases. Father Edward Beck faced flak for his remarks after he shared his views during a segment on CNN’s ‘New Day’ saying that churches should require proof of vaccination. He added that people who were unvaccinated should not be welcomed at church for Christmas Mass.

Social media users quickly logged into Twitter to slam the TV contributor while dubbing him a fraud and a hypocrite. Whilst speaking on celebrating Christmas in church during Covid, the father said, “There's no supply chain shortage of love and compassion. I think what we are trying to say to people is that ''you have a social responsibility if you do gather.” He added, “You know Christian churches, many are gathering this evening, and some are still not requiring vaccination, which I disagree with.” Edward Beck’s comments come after the country has witnessed a surge in the Omicron variant.

Who is Father Edward Beck?

Father Edward Beck is a Roman Catholic priest and is also a member of the Passionist Community. He is regularly seen on CNN as a religious commentator. He was ordained as a priest in 1985 and he has been a media contributor on issues of faith, religion, morality and ethics for over a decade. Apart from CNN, Father Edward Beck has also shared his views on leading news networks namely ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, MSNBC, ABC Family Channel, HLN and Current TV.

Beck has penned three books namely God Underneath: Spiritual Memoirs of a Catholic Priest released in 2002, Unlikely Ways Home: Real-Life Spiritual Detours released in 2006, and Soul Provider: Spiritual Steps to Limitless Love released in 2009. He currently resides in New York City. After ensuing chaos on Twitter with his remarks, he also took to Twitter and blatantly posted, “Yep. I said it. I don’t think unvaccinated people should be gathering in churches for Christmas Eve / Day Masses. “Love thy neighbor,” says the Savior.” Beck in his segment added that that following Jesus also meant complying with his lessons of love and compassion towards others. “I think that part of caring for one another, you know, the dogma of Jesus, love one another, show compassion, show mercy to each other”, said Beck. He added, “So I think the message is that if we want to act like Jesus in these kind of times, we take care of each other. And If we are going to gather in celebration, we have to do so safely, confidently. And we have to gift to one another that gift of peace, and part of that is health and feeling like we are gathering in a healthy environment”, as reported by the Daily Mail.

He would have nothing without his parishioners”, said one user as another chimed in, “And I don't think s**tlibs wearing white collars should call themselves "Father" but here is "Father Edward Beck" saying stupid things on TV.” Another user posted, “Don’t let your children near Edward Beck. Seriously.”

Broke bread with prostitutes.” One user added, “Father Edward Beck earned himself an INSTA-BLOCK, with his portrayal of Pure-Bloods.” One individual tweeted, “Hypocrite Edward Beck: You must have sold out your soul to Satan just like your antichrist boss, @Pontifex . May God touches your hearts and save you from demons.” One furious user stated, “Edward Beck is a fraud.
