Spoilers for 'Fate: The Winx Saga' Season 1 Episode 3 'Heavy Mortal Hopes'

In the third episode titled 'Heavy Mortal Hopes', we find out that Ben Harvey, headmistress Farah Dowling (Eve Best), and specialist headmaster Saul Silva (Robert James-Collier) have a dark secret but maybe Beatrix (Sadie Soverall) can help air that out. The end of the second episode saw Bloom get stuck in a trance, and episode 3 starts from that very scene.

Bloom was, in fact, going through an embedded memory resurfacing — she sees an operation room, hears the cries of a baby, and the voice of a lady she doesn't recognize saying, "When the time comes, find me." Bloom gathered that the woman was the fairy that had left her in the First World aka the human world when she was a baby, making her a Changeling. The woman had embedded that memory into Bloom's head 16 years ago.

Silva is dying

Silva's wound in 'Fate: The Winx Saga' Episode 3 'Heavy Mortal Hopes' (Netflix)

In the last episode, we saw Silva attacked by a Burned One, and the wound although helped by the Zanbaq oil given by Harvey, doesn't stop him from dying — all it does is calm his symptoms. In order for him to heal, the exact Burned One that had cut him has to be killed. Sky (Danny Griffin), who considers Silva his second father, gets increasingly worried about him. When Marco, Noura, and the rest of the battalion hunted and killed a Burned One, Silva's wounds didn't heal which only had one indication — there was more than one Burned Ones out there. When Sky finds out about this, he decides to take matters into his own hands and heads to the woods where he finds a very pissed off Bloom.

Who is Rosalind?

Bloom had tried her best to find out who the woman in her memory was by using old yearbooks and pictures around the Alfea. While attending the senior specialist party in the east wing of the school, she finds a framed photo and immediately recognizes the woman in the picture as the same one from her dreams. Drunk and upset she had gone to ask Dowling who this woman was. The headmistress explained that the woman's name was Rosalind (Lesley Sharp).

Now, if you remember, the first episode saw Dowling reveal that Rosalind had killed all of the Burned Ones and that is all we knew of her. But, in this episode, Dowling tells Bloom that Rosalind was the headmistress that preceded her, and Dowling was her protege. Rosalind was apparently headmistress during a very difficult time, a time that no one wants to remember. Telling Bloom that Rosalind has been dead for years, Dowling makes one thing clear to her student — "That is where this ends," she said to Bloom.

The second Burned one is caught

When Bloom goes to the Stone Circle to calm herself, she meets Sky and reveals to him that she's a Changeling. Sky is wearing full armor and is set to make sure he can find and kill the Burned One that had cut Silva. Even though she doesn't know why she is able to hear whispers of her name and feel when a Burned One is close. Bloom was able to navigate the Burned One. Before she could let Dowling know that the Burned One was in the forest, Sky was already running into the dark. Musa (Elisha Applebaum), Aisha (Precious Mustapha), Stella (Hannah van der Westhuysen), and Terra (Eliot Salt) come to help thanks to a text from Bloom, and even though Sky was able to stab the Burned One, Dowling ended up showing up to kill it. Silva was officially saved.

Rosalind isn't dead

Sadie Soverall as Beatrix in 'Fate: The Winx Saga' Episode 3 'Heavy Mortal Hopes' (Netflix)

In the previous episodes, it has become abundantly clear that Beatrix (Sadie Soverall) isn't at Alfea for the right reasons. She is dead set on finding out what Harvey, Silva, and Dowling are hiding. Using the help of Dowling's assistant whom she called Cally, she enters Dowling's office, yet again. There she had previously found that the bookcase in Dowling's office moves aside and leads to an undercroft, but there's a trap. When she makes it down there in this episode, she finds something glowing bright with magic down there but isn't able to get through to it.

She comes up and disintegrates Cally before leaving Dowling's office. What makes things even worse is that Dowling lied to Bloom. The end of the episode sees the headmistress telling Harvey and Silva that Bloom had told her about the fairy she saw in her dreams and how it was Rosalind. When Harvey asked why Dowling had told Bloom that Rosalind was dead, she said: "Bloom has the potential to be one of the most powerful fairies the Otherworld has ever known. If Rosalind is calling to her there's a reason. We can never let the two of them meet."

So, is Rosalind being kept down in the undercroft in hiding? If so, why?

'Fate: The Winx Saga' is now available to stream on Netflix.
