Faleena Hopkins: Romance writer, 52, goes missing in Wyoming after being released from jail for leading cops on high-speed chase
GRAND TETON, WYOMING: Faleena Hopkins, a romance writer who was arrested and taken into custody after she led police officers on a high-speed chase through the Grand Teton National Park and released from jail, has now been reported missing. She went missing after her release from prison, three days after her arrest.
The writer who once trademarked the word “cocky” was arrested on Friday, January 27, after she led police officers through the national park in Wyoming, leaving them on a 24-mile pursuit. The chase stopped after her tires were deflated by officers who used spike strips. Hopkins' family and friends have alerted the law enforcement force about her being missing.

Faleena Hopkins' park chase
Following the car chase on Friday, January 27, Hopkins, who is also an actress, faced several charges, including an attempt to elude police or flee, driving beyond the speed limit, and parking or stopping on the roadway. Talking to the Jackson Hole Daily, one of Hopkins' friends revealed that she mostly resided in Seattle, Washington, and has not been spotted since January 30.
Hopkins and the 'Cockygate' controversy
In 2018, Hopkins' topped the headlines after she registered a trademark for the term "cocky." With a span of around 22 titles listed on Amazon, she is famed for her romance series 'Cocker brother.'
As per the Vox report, the 'Cockygate' trademark led Hopkins to file a complaint against authors who plan to use the word 'cocky' in their works such as romance novel titles, as per Vox's report. The writer who has also worked as an actress has published and sold over a million copies and later surrendered the registration for a trademark after the controversy stirred the romance novel industry.
Hopkins' missing case
On Monday, January 30, Hopkins who is a 52-year-old writer, was last spotted in Jackson. According to her missing-person profile, Hopkins was released from jail in Teton County, according to New York Post.
The DCI's profile stated "She is a white female, approximately 5’7”, 135 pounds, with green eyes and blond hair,” and added, “Faleena has an infinity symbol on her left wrist, ‘Follow All Instincts’ on her right wrist, a lion face on her left shoulder and a hummingbird on her right ankle."
The writer was also a stand-up comic in Los Angeles for five years and has around 50 titles listed on Amazon. Hopkins is now listed on the missing person's page under the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. She was set to make her appearance in the federal court for an arraignment on February 28 at 10 am.
