'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier': It's OFFICIAL! Sam Wilson is Captain America as he takes on mantle in finale

The show ends with it being renamed 'Captain America and the Winter Soldier' as Sam Wilson finally takes up the shield

We knew it was coming, but it was a surprising moment nonetheless. Sam Wilson has finally taken on the mantle of 'Captain America' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the season finale of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' (TFATWS), we got to see Sam in his awesome new Cap suit complete with the stars, stripes and wings. 

Thanks to the Wakandans, Sam gets a new and exciting suit that merges his Falcon tech with the colors of Cap. The moment has created a lot of excitement on Twitter after five emotional episodes. The show also ended with a massive rebranding as 'Captain America and the Winter Soldier'.

Twitter users were filled with joy as Sam became the first non-White Cap. One user shared the screengrab and tweeted, "YALLLLLLL IM SO HAPPY RN FUCK," and we can only say we agree. Another user said, "first day as captain america i’m so proud of you i love you so much." One person tweeted, "@AnthonyMackie did the damn thing! Sam Wilson is Captain America."

Another user shared several stills from the episode and tweeted, "DAMN I HAVE CLASS IN 5 HOURS, ANYWAYS SAM IS THE NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA. JUST THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW."

"The falcon and the winter soldier? Nah,i prefer CAPTAIN AMERICA AND THE WINTER SOLDIER. U DESERVE IT SAM," said another. Reacting to the moment, one user said, "Holy shit, speechless." Another excited user said, "I saw it! Gave me all the feels I just loved how Falcon took over the best speech mantle from Cap...so inspiring! Really proud of you @AnthonyMackie Those were some big shoes to fill and you did good  Love you too Seb!" Another person tweeted, "JUST finished Falcon and the Winter Soldier.... And WOW!! I'm so proud to see @AnthonyMackie take up the mantle of Captain America. The beautiful ending with Isaiah Bradley still has my eyes welled up. Perfect. Thank you to all involved!"

It was no surprise that Sam would take the mantle. We've seen leaked toys ahead of the show that revealed Sam's Captain America suit. We also had multiple leaks and theories that the series would end with Sam taking up the shield. That idea was cemented in Episode 5 when Sam began training with the shield. Nonetheless, the moment has captured the imagination of millions, especially after Bradley's "they will never let a Black man be Captain America" comment in the episode.
