Spoilers for 'Blow The Man Down'

'Blow The Man Down' was an ice-cold depiction of sisterly loyalty and a town that has secrets that surface when convenient. Sisters Mary Beth and Priscilla Connolly are left with debt after the passing of their mother, Mary Margaret Connolly, an integral part of the town and a beloved matriarch. After a run-in with a dangerous man, the sisters, try to cover up a murder of a dangerous man, and with that, they expose the shady history of their small fishing village in Maine.

In an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), Morgan Saylor, who plays the role of Mary Beth, takes a deep dive into explaining how it was like to portray her character in a movie that was women-centric and also reveals how she prepared for the role. Her character has an adventurous and rebellious nature, adding to the thriller and ominous narrative of the movie.

Saylor explained her experience essaying such a strong role saying, "I adore Mary Beth. She thinks she is very unique within her town and wants to push away from her roots. She feels like she needs to break free. On top of that, she is a mess of emotions from her mother’s passing. To an actor, it was very thrilling to play someone who is such a storm! She’s got a lot of velocity."

The darkness that envelops the small town of Easter Cove shouts women empowerment as they grieve a matriarch. Whether it's keeping secrets or undeniable loyalty, the characters in the movie have women on a pedestal of independence. "Women hold more power than people think. And that can take a lot of different forms. One thing I think our film does it prove is how sisterhood can be a tough, but super powerful bond," said Saylor.

Since, the movie is based on a fishing town all the way from the sing-along calls to the rough sea landscapes, Saylor let us in on what the preparation behind a skillful murder mystery entailed. "We spent several weeks rehearsing in Los Angeles. Just working on the scenes and getting to know one another (the two directors Bridget Savage-Cole and Danielle Krudy and the wonderful Sophie Lowe). Then once we got to Maine, Sophie and I did a lot of local exploring. We had a few fun fish-cutting and boat-driving lessons too," she said.

Having had landed the role after auditioning for it three years ago, Saylor said she was in love with the project from the first time she read the script. She dished on a memorable experience during filming as well, saying, "There was a huge snowstorm while we were up in Maine. Sophie & I stayed together and lost power! We were in the middle of nowhere. It was pretty spooky." - that's a perfect setting for a murder mystery eh?

Saylor expressed that she is currently not working on any projects and is staying safe during the global crisis, "While I’m at home I’ve been writing a lot. I hope to get back to movie-making soon!"

The 90-minute crime drama, 'Blow the Man Down', was released on Amazon Prime on March 20, 2020.
