MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: Spring breaker Christine Englehardt, 24, who was left to die after being drugged and raped, had traveled to Miami for spring break. The revelation came as two suspects in the incidents surrounding her death appeared in Florida court. Englehardt's semi-nude body was found on the bed in the hotel room.

Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, have been charged in connection with Englehardt's death in Miami Beach. Both accused men have been appointed public defenders for the time being.

During the bond hearing, Collier's sister pleaded with the judge saying he has never been in trouble before. "I’m severely bewildered by these charges and accusations against him, but I can attest for his character and I can attest for the responsibility of him standing trial for whatever charges," his sister said. "If you please let my brother come home and let our family handle the situation appropriately, we will do whatever is necessary that Miami-Dade County asks of us."

'This is a dangerous world now...'

In a haunting social media post from 2019 that's recently been shared again on Facebook in wake of Englehardt's death, she shared a story where she was apparently stalked – and warned others to be cautious. In the post on July 5, 2019, she wrote: "Last week, I was running past the Tyler Arts Center building and saw in the parking lot a car with a white T-shirt hanging out the driver's side window. As I was running past him, the car started beeping at me and the driver waved his hand out the window. I assumed he was broken down and needed help, but my gut feeling was telling me something wasn't right. So I kept running and didn't stop."

It continued, "Today around 1 pm, I ran past the same area and there was same car with the same T-shirt hanging out. My heart started racing. As I ran past him, he beeped again and waved for my attention. I immediately knew that this was some kind of predator scheme. I waited until I wasn't in his sight to stop to call 911. Luckily, park workers were driving by and I stopped them and told them to get the park ranger to investigate for this was now the second time the same man was doing this. They dispatched the ranger immediately and thanked me for alerting them."

"So if you ever feel unsafe in ANY way or have a feeling something isn't right, DON'T hesitate to notify the police. Always go with your gut. Please be on alert for any suspicious people or cars. This is a dangerous world now unfortunately and you never know what anyone's true intentions are."

What happened that night?

According to arrest records, surveillance footage showed the two men — Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24 — entering the hotel lobby at 1650 James Avenue with Englehardt at about 1 am on March 18, 2021, but about a half-hour later they are seen exiting the hotel alone. Both men matched the description given to police and were stopped and detained by detectives March 21, 2021. According to a police report, Collier said that both of them met her at a local restaurant before giving her the drug as they walked along Ocean Drive.

The group then headed back to the Albion Hotel at 1650 James Avenue, the Miami Herald reported. As they walked into the elevator in the building, the woman was staggering. Collier further revealed that he and Taylor each had sex with Englehardt and that Taylor raped her as she seemed to be unconscious, authorities said.

Judge Mindy Glazer said during the hearing: "The victim couldn’t even pick up the phone to call the police or 9-1-1 after they did what they did to her." One of the defendants allegedly admitted to giving Englehardt a "green pill" with the characters "a30" on it, but it's not clear at this time what the pill was or if she died from overdosing on it. Collier told the police that he believed the drug was Percocet.

According to WSVN, a Miami Beach detective stated in a statement: "She was actually staggering a little bit, and at one point co-defendant Taylor held her, behind her, around her neck, basically keeping her stable. We believe she was either intoxicated or drugged, and she could not give consent for them to actually go with her." But, despite this, cops said the men went into Englehardt's hotel room anyway.

The cause of Englehardt's death is pending along with a toxicology report. Authorities also said that the two men used credit cards they stole from intoxicated Englehardt to continue partying in Miami. Collier and Taylor are now facing charges of burglary with battery, petty theft, sexual battery and credit card fraud. If the drug they gave her is proven to have played a role in her death, they could also be facing manslaughter or murder charges.
