In episode five of CBS' 'Evil', titled 'October 31', we see signature Halloween elements of horror come together to scare viewers.

There's an exorcism gone wrong, a ghostbusting team mimics the show and uses shady tricks to prove an establishment is haunted, and of course — a little masked kid leading the others to impending doom.

As intriguing as all the several horror plots unfolding are, it is the exorcism side of things that has fans thrilled because of the shout outs this episode gives to the 70s horror — 'The Exorcist'.

The official synopsis reads: "On Halloween night, Kristen and David are sent to assess an exorcism, but once the pair analyzes the situation, they are at odds while trying to determine whether it is a supernatural demonic possession or severe mental disease escalated by physical and mental distress."

The patient in question is Caroline, a woman scarred and tormented by demonic possession and as the episode navigates her journey and that of the priest in training and a skeptic trying to make sense of things, we get prominent nods to 'The Exorcist'.

In the 70s show, a 12-year-old girl was equally troubled and had to undergo the same treatment. Plot points like the priest walking through the mist, and using tap water as fake Holy water purely to agitate the demon that has possessed the victim were shown in the episode, just like the 1973 film did.

Fans immediately took notice of the several similarities that the episode effortlessly slides in as a classic throwback to what has been an evergreen horror for decades now, and expressed their thrill on Twitter.

One user pointed out: "The fog, Figure with the satchel. Straight out of The Exorcist," while another praised the episode, sharing: "Nice homage to The Exorcist. This show is so beautifully shot in general."

A lot of fans were conflicted over whether the similarities were intentional or not, and summing it up for everyone, one user remarked: "30 minutes until #EvilCBS: Tonight 'October 31' or 'How We Lovingly/Shamelessly Parodied The Exorcist'."

'Evil' airs on Thursdays at 10 pm only on CBS.
