'Everything's Gonna Be Okay' Episode 7: Matilda steals hearts, fans find her speech rehearsal adorable
Spoiler alert for 'Everything's Gonna Be Okay' Season 1
While this episode, titled 'Blue Death-Feigning Beetles', gave Nicholas' (Josh Thomas) mother, Penny (Vivienne Walshe), more screen time, his sister Matilda (Kayla Cromer) most definitely stole the show. Matilda, who is on the autistic spectrum, has been one of the most beloved characters on the show, and this episode brought to light the adult aspect of her future and it was beautifully portrayed. Fans poured out their support for the character as Cromer tweeted to explain how this episode was important for her character.
As Matilda waits to find out if she makes it into her dream school, Julliard, her brother Nicholas and sister Genevieve (Maeve Press) are faced with the hard decision of letting her live far away from them in New York. Genevieve is especially worried if her sister will be able to make it in a big city alone, especially with her difficulty in understanding social cues dealing with large crowds.
Nicholas to his credit has been killing the parenting game as of late and calms his sister down letting Genevieve know that Matilda has always exceeded expectations, and this time will be no different.
"Nicholas is right, Matilda has exceeded everything people have said she wouldn't be able to do. If Matilda goes to Juilliard and fails she'll have her family come back to. @JoshThomas87 @MaevePress @KaylaCromer17 @EverythingsOkTV #EverythingsGonnaBeOkay," tweeted another fan in support of the girl's new guardian.
Fans were especially touched by Matilda's practicing her speech in front of the mirror, and while we tried to hold back tears during the episode, we did not succeed. "Omg Matilda giving her speech in front of the mirror is so adorable. I love her so much #EverythingsGonnaBeOkay," tweeted a fan.
"MATILDA YOU CUTIE, YOU'RE TOTALLY GONNA GET THAT AWARD SOME DAY #EverythingsGonnaBeOkay @EverythingsOkTV," tweeted another supportive fan.
"#everythingsgonnabeokay Matilda’s big moment in the episode was a very important part of Matilda’s character arc. Just like every Matilda scene I make each “take” different in acting choices to give a variety of options. That’s acting. I am happy with the take they chose," tweeted Cromer herself.
"If you haven’t yet realized that one thing Matilda and I have in common is we exceed people's expectations. We enjoy proving people wrong when they tell us we can’t do something nor big or small we always manage to cause draws to drop in disbelief. #EverythingsGonnaBeOkay," she continued.
This was an intensely wholesome episode and the way the show has chosen to showcase the overcoming of adversities deserves more than a standing ovation.
'Everything's Gonna Be Okay' airs every Thursday at 7.30 pm CST on Freeform.
