Being a neurotic 25-year-old, Nicholas was not involved in helping raise his siblings. He went from living a nonchalant life and having all the freedom in the world to becoming a guardian to his sisters Matilda and Genevieve.
You can't prepare for children, and Nicholas knows he may not be cut out for the job but he tries nonetheless with support from his sisters. In this episode, titled 'Silkmoths', we see Nicholas attempt to sustain a relationship with his date Alex but puts his sisters feelings before his.
As Alex teaches Nicholas how to drive on a hilariously dreadful lesson, they exchange the three dreaded words, "I love you". Nicholas, unsure of what to do with the situation, let's his sisters weigh in on the topic.
You see, teenage girls are more than just first periods and boy troubles, it involves a lot of untamed teenage rage. After getting the hint that Genevieve may not be a big fan of Alex, Nicholas takes them out to bingo night.
Genevieve, being the 15-year-old she is, was not a fan of the outing, declaring that the "exercise for forced bonding" is not her cup of tea. "I hate how charming he is," Genevieve tells her brother, describing Alex.
This tears up Nicholas because it's hard to keep up a relationship with one of his sisters hating his boyfriend. His mother is introduced again in this episode and it seems as though she's the adult he calls when he's in an emotional runt and in need of advice.
"Go after what you want or you'll end up with nothing", his mother tells him. Torn between his sister's feelings towards a man he loves and a man that he's always dreamed of, Nicholas breaks up with Alex to sustain his relationship with his sister.
A crying montage and an attempted sex scene later, Nicholas and Alex part ways. Genevieve notices how irrational she was for telling Nicholas that she basically did not like Alex for zero reasons after she finds how sad Nicholas is.
Matilda and Alex then set up the master bedroom for a getaway for the duo as a surprise for Nicholas. After Alex comes back into the picture, Nicholas starts to realize that he might not like Alex no much, but Genevieve calls him "erratic" and the situation is put under the rug for now.
Hilariously portrayed yet relatable on most counts, Nicholas' fickle nature with his feelings for Alex and his utmost need to please his sisters makes for a great episode. All is well that ends well.
