Emmys 2020: Air date, time, host, nominees and all you need to know about the virtual ceremony of TV's biggest night

It's been a wild ride for TV entertainment during the coronavirus pandemic and many wondered how the year's award ceremonies will be held. Well, there's nothing to worry about because the 72nd Primetime Emmys is not canceled, but rather will be going virtual to ensure the best of television is celebrated. While it was reported that the ceremony was to be held in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater, the Television Academy revealed in July that the ceremony would be virtual.

E! News was able to get a statement from ABC that read, "As ABC and the Television Academy continue to formulate plans for the Emmys telecast, producers have taken the proactive step of reaching out to some nominees now to inform them of our intent to deliver a live show that is both celebratory and safe. We look forward to sharing information with you in the weeks ahead, as we solidify our plans for TV's biggest night." Here is what we know about the upcoming virtual ceremony:

Air Date and time

The 2020 virtual Emmys will premiere on Sunday, September 20, 2020, beginning at 8 pm ET/ 5 pm PT. 

Where to watch

The 72nd Primetime Emmys will air live on the ABC network. 

Host

Nominees

The Emmy Awards 2020 nominees were announced by Leslie Jones, Laverne Cox, Josh Gad, and Tatiana Maslany on July 28, 2020, through a virtual weblink on 28 July 2020. Among the list of nominees that have been released so far, there are some big productions such as HBO's 'Watchmen' with 26 nominations, Amazon's 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' with 20 nominations, and 'Succession' and 'Ozark' with 18 nominations.

It has also been duly noted that Netflix took first place with 160 nominations and HBO came in right behind with 107 nominations. We have previously reported the entire list of nominees for the 72nd Primetime Emmys, you can see the list here.
