LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 stunned Disney Aulani Resort, Hawaii's audience with soulful voices. The Top 26 performers gave their best with the hope of getting most of the votes. Judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, enlightened the singers with their critics and compliments.

On Sunday's episode, Emma Busse came as a complete surprise package. She stunned the audience as well as the panelists with her Broadway singing. Well, it seems that 'American Idol' Season 21 fans did not like Emma's singing. Moreover, they wondered whether "something was off" with her.

Emma Busse dodged for being 'too Broadway' initially

Emma amused the judges by singing 'Lay Me Down' by Sam Smith. She sang the same song for the first time when she was just 16 years old. In order to bring back the memory for the sake of "personal growth" Emma sang the same again. Seeing Emma sing Broadway was a surprise to many. At first, the judges dodged her for being too Broadway. But slowly her vocal was adapted to the ears. Unlike what judges expressed for other singers, their expression in Emma's performance was much dry.

After Emma's performance, Katy commented, "You sing all those hidden colors, the notes we don’t know exist, you are a pro." Luke on the other hand claimed that Emma has the ability to "bring the song through" herself. Lionel said, "You’re very special, enjoy this ride."

Was Emma Busse 'off' during her performance in Hawaii?

It seemed so to a few fans. Seeing Emma perform a fan claimed, "Emma is off tonight. I didn't find that pleasant." Another claimed, "EMMA HAS A GREAT VOICE HITS ODD NOTES BUT IT WORKS. 3RD PLACE FOR HER." Another slammed Emma's Hawaii performance calling it "painful." A fan tweeted, "Lordy me Emma was painful to listen to."

A fan commented on YouTube, "Wrong song choice... sam smith is the benchmark for this song and this performance didn't nailed it... sorry gurl i think this will be buhbye." Another wrote "Please put this show out of it's misery," after listening to Emma's song.

‘American Idol’ Season 21 airs every Sunday and Monday at 8 pm ET on ABC.
