Marilyn Monroe's most recent biopic 'Blonde' has received a mixed reception. A fictionalized approach to the iconic actor's life and struggles starring Ana de Armas in the lead role, many have criticized the movie for hyperfixating on Monroe's struggles and making it seem she did not experience even a single moment of joy.

Now, among the list of critics is model Emily Ratajkowski, who slammed the biopic for seemingly "fetishizing female pain, even in death," while adding that she hasn't yet watched the movie. Her opinion has been affected by negative reviews of the movie by others. The model, who recently left her allegedly unfaithful husband Sebastian Bear-McClard, added in her video that "anger is hard to fetishize." As a result, she is now in, what she terms, her "b***h era."

Citing examples from the lives of Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, and Princess Diana, she opined that "we stress over" the tragic aspects of their lives, including the deaths of the latter two. She spoke of "the way we obsess over dead girls and serial killers. Watch any CSI episode and it’s like this crazy fetishization of female pain and death."

Ratajkowski then seems to find a solution to this "fetishization". She says, "As women, I mean I can say for myself for sure that I’ve learned how to fetishize my own pain and my own hurt in life, so that it feels like something that can be tended to, that’s kinda sexy, and like, you know: "I’m like this, oh, f****d up girl, whatever.' And I think we do that in many, many different ways, but I want that to change."

The solution? "Anger," she says, "is hard to fetishize." She then goes on to add, "So I have a proposal. I think we all need to be a little more p****d off. I’m gonna be in my B***h Era. 2022, baby, is my b***h era. This is, I think we should all be in our B***h Era." She further claims she is going to be "p*****d off" when she sees the movie, but "it's nothing new and yeah, I'm just gonna get angry."

Ratajkowski, whose book 'My Body' contains essays that explore the theme of self-sexualization and the male gaze, added a comment on her TikTok video, recommending Alice Bolin’s 'Dead Girls' and Leslie Jamison’s essay 'Grand Unified Theory of Female Pain' to her viewers to learn more of such themes.

'Blonde', directed by Andrew Dominik, has so far garnered a string of bad reviews, with the Wall Street Journal condemning it for being "one long slog into sadness and more-than-predictable tragedy," while the New York Times said the movie exploited Marilyn Monroe "for old times' sake"
