'Emergence' Episode 7: ABC show returns after weeklong break to expose Emily's true intentions with Piper
‘Emergence’ fans had to go through yet another week without the ABC show, but thankfully it is back with a brand new episode on Tuesday, November 19. The upcoming Season 1 Episode 7 ‘Fatal Exception’ will give us more insight into the cliffhanger with which Episode 6 'Mile Marker 14' left us.
Towards the end of the previous episode, we saw that Emily (Maria Dizzia) has been masterminding at least a large part of Piper (Alexa Swinton), possibly even created her. Emily was introduced to Jo (Allison Tolman) and Benny (Owain Yeoman) as an employee of Kindred (Terry O'Quinn), who was working with him out of necessity rather than desire. She seemed scared of him and even helped Jo take him down.
However, it seems like that was all part of a long elaborate plan that Emily hatched to be in Piper's life. From the trailer for the upcoming 'Fatal Exception', it seems like she built Piper to be her AI daughter and is now unpleased that she does not look to her as a mother. This is reminiscent of the video that Benny and Jo saw of Piper, where a family wanted to celebrate her birthday, but she told them that she was unhappy with them and did not want to be a part of their family, before wreaking havoc.
With Jo, Piper has managed to create a mother-daughter relationship, which led the police chief to not only foster her but also put her safety above that of her family in essence. Jo has lost the trust of most people in her life because she kept them in the dark about Piper's real identity. And yet, it seems like getting Piper to choose her over Emily, primarily because Emily is planning to "fix" Piper so that she loves her.
It remains to be seen how this whole picking of the right mother goes, but we are excited to find out when Season 1 Episode 7 of 'Emergence', titled 'Fatal Exception' airs on Tuesday, November 19.
