'Emergence' Episode 2: Is Piper an alien or a science experiment subject and did Jo take the right call in saving her?

As of now, Jo is either feigning ignorance or is blinded by her sense of responsibility towards this child. It remains to be seen if her trust and love is misplaced or not in Episode 2

ABC premiered the mystery series 'Emergence' on Tuesday, September 25 night starring Alison Tolman, and viewers are shook, to say the least. A lot happened in the very first episode, starting with a plane crash and things got progressively exciting from there.

So far we know that there is a girl, who we are going to call Piper (Alexa Swinton) for now, and she has some supernatural abilities. She mysteriously appears in the same spot as the debris of a plane crash and is spotted by Tolman's character and police chief of Long Island's Peconic Bay, Jo Evans.

She seems to have forgotten everything about herself and how she got where she was which, according to a pediatrician and Jo's best friend Dr. Abby Fraiser (Zabryna Guevara), is perfectly normal after an accident.

What Jo and the others don't see, however, is that she is somehow able to control magnetic and electric things around her, which has compelled fans to compare her to Eleven from 'Stranger Things', portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown.

We see glimpses of her powers, when she changes the TV channel in Jo's house without a remote, when the raindrops on the windshield on Jo's car start dripping in a weird direction before she reveals herself, and when the car in which her "parents" were kidnapping her flips over killing the two of them.

As of now, Jo is either feigning ignorance or is blinded by her sense of responsibility towards this child. It remains to be seen if her trust and love is misplaced or not, but it certainly seems like Piper too, has a fierce sense of protectiveness towards her.

Soon after the show's premiere, many theories about Piper's real identity cropped up, with several fans claiming that she is an alien, while others compared her to Eleven, claiming that she is one of the subjects that a science facility in the abandoned island mentioned in the episode is experimenting on.

Some of the more creative fan theorists claim that she is a younger Jo, from an alternate universe, come to save her from impending doom.

It remains to be seen which of these theories is true, but the cast and showrunners have promised to answer all the big questions right away on the show, so don't forget to watch Season 1 Episode 2 of ABC's 'Emergence' on Tuesday, October 1.
