Elon Musk has sought to end his $44bn bid to buy Twitter, alleging various breaches of agreement. Musk said he backed out because the company failed to provide enough information on the number of spam and fake accounts. Twitter has now said that it plans to take legal action to enforce the agreement.

Musk has now mocked Twitter for taking him to court with a series of memes. The billionaire, 51, shared a picture of Chuck Norris at a chess board with one pawn staring down a set of black pieces. "Chuckmate," he wrote in the thread.

Another meme is a collage of four pictures of Musk laughing hysterically, with a comment beside each picture. "They said I couldn't buy Twitter," one comments reads, while the second says, "Then they wouldn't disclose bot info". The third comment reads, "Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court." The fourth says, "Now thet have to disclose bot info in court".

His memes received various reactions on Twitter, with one user commenting on the 'bot' tweet, "Did you make this or steal it from one of your followers? just trying to gauge how sorry to feel for you." "Werent you gonna buy twitter TO DEAL WITH the bot problem? why was it suddenly contingent on the bot problem only being a certain size?" wrote another. "It is hilarious to watch Elon Musk trolling Twitter on Twitter," one user said.

"Since you gave up on buying Twitter, buy Victory Sport Club, a big soccer club from Savepain in Brazil. If u want u can change the name for Sport Club StarLink Victory or ViTesla Sport Club," one user commented on the Chuck Norris tweet. "Well, I think you should still have to buy Twitter. You knew of the bot issue when you made the offer," commented a user on the 'bot' tweet. One user said on the same tweet, "Twitters the one laughing when musk has to sell Tesla stock to pay out damages when this contract is enforced".

Musk was set to buy Twitter for $44 billion, a deal that he struck on Monday, April 25. The firm, which is publicly traded, would have become a private company owned by the world's richest man. Musk reportedly negotiated a purchase price of $54.20 per-share.

Musk has been a steadfast proponent of ‘free speech’ on Twitter. The Tesla co-founder had earlier opened up about an ‘Edit Button’ on the platform, and went on to hold a poll, deliberately misspelling yes and no, possibly to bring to the users' attention that the button is needed as people often make typographical errors while tweeting. Twitter had even confirmed the Edit button would be introduced.

Musk is one of the most prolific users of Twitter with more than 83 million followers. In January, he began amassing a stake of about 9% and had ramped up his criticism of the microblogging platform by March, alleging that Twitter's growth was inflated by bots. He also said that the platform's feeds are overwhelmed with automated junk posts, and that the company's algorithms are biased.
