Elon Musk says his children were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit, Internet calls him 'sheer genius'
Elon Musk trending on social media is not uncommon. However, it is a whole another level when his kids come into the picture. In what can rightly be described as a candid chat on the popular Clubhouse audio, Musk had quite the revelation to make when he said "My kids were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit," in response to one of the questions that popped up: 'The best way to educate a 5-year-old.'
Needless to say, this remark went viral on social media with Twitter users voicing their opinion. For some, this was a platform for children to learn independently while making effective use of the internet. ""My kids were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit." - Elon Musk #Clubhouse In response to question about the best way to educate a 5-year-old. We really need to utilize the internet in a very effective way," read one of the tweets.
This was seconded by another who wrote: "When Elon Musk was asked how would he educate a 5 year old? He replied and said: My kids are mostly educated on YOUTUBE and REDDIT. Dear Parents, there's YouTube Kids for Kids via http://youtubekids.com or http://youtube.com/kids Let this children learn independently."
For those who believed in the unconventional way of studying, especially out of school, this was a perfect response that Musk had given. "Elon Musk said: "My kids were mostly educated by YouTube and Reddit" This is exactly what I do tell people. you will learn more via YouTube, Google and reading books. Most of the things you need to know is on the internet, traveling and museums," one of the users opined.
The praise for the billionaire wasn't far away either. "6/ @elonmusk is super authentic, sheer genius, very consistent in the way he responds in any forum. Down to earth, clearly having fun and very generous with his time. He was awesome in saying his kids learned more from @YouTube and@reddit- surprised he did not say @khanacademy." Quite a few takeaways came in, in the form of the tweets. "@elonmusk on #education in a modern era: - @YouTube - @reddit - School (virtual) - Online classrooms - teachers need to explain the "why" of things and why its relevant - we forget things that have low established relevance - need engaging narratives."

Musk has six children and from his words, he's referring to his five kids — Griffin Musk and Xavier Musk, born in 2004, via IVF. It also includes his triplet sons Kai Musk, Saxon Musk and Damian Musk with his then-wife Justine. The couple divorced in 2008. In 2020, he announced the birth of his son on Twitter, who he welcomed with his current girlfriend, singer Grimes. As per Fortune magazine, the five attend a non-traditional school invented and funded by Elon, called Ad Astra.
Moving back to his Clubhouse discussion, Musk also shared his thoughts on Bitcoin. "I do at this point think bitcoin is a good thing, and I am a supporter of bitcoin. I think bitcoin is really on the verge of getting broad acceptance by conventional finance people."
