The 'El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie' sees Jesse Pinkman flee from authorities, druglords, and his past

As Breaking Bad's Netflix movie sequel drops this week, we have some idea about what Jesse was up to since the series finale.
UPDATED OCT 8, 2019

Six years after the phenomenal 'Felina', aka the 'Breaking Bad', series finale where Walter White freed Jesse Pinkman from his neo-Nazi captors, we finally get the answers to what happened after Jesse drove off like a madman without turning around even once. Technically, we don't have the direct answers yet, as the Netflix movie sequel titled 'El Camino: A Breaking Bad' story drops this week, but we have a faint idea about what Jesse has been up to since then.

The trailer lays down the time period for the movie as an immediate aftermath of the finale, where Walter was seen lying inside a meth lab, most likely bleeding to his death. Jesse, still a fugitive, meanders through his post-Walter life in the wake of the police carrying on an extensive investigation on his whereabouts. So, where does he go next? Of course, straight to his closest friend, Skinny Pete, who subsequently brings Badger in on their little secret that Jesse is alive and at his place.

Jesse can be seen driving the same car and wearing the same outfits from the series finale, in the initial seconds of the trailer so it wouldn't be wrong to assume that the man is beyond traumatized from months-long torture at the hands of his captors. The camera then reveals a shot of Jesse taking a shower as dirt floods the bathroom drain, making it evident that the conditions he was being held in were far from humane. As he looks into a mirror, his shirtless back facing the camera shows healed gashes and massive scars, which can be deduced as results of his captivity and the torture he went through, so at this point, how much he will allow Pete or Badger into his plan of action here on, is as good a guess as any.

The trailer offers plenty of clips on the investigation front, but the one that captures our intrigue is a photo of Jesse's drug addict girlfriend Andrea, and her son Brock. In the series, Andrea met a gruesome end at the hands of Todd, who wanted to keep Jesse cooking for his uncle's gang. Brock, however, wasn't given a definitive end after the little child was poisoned with the Lily of the Valley berries by Walter, who did it all to trick Jesse into thinking that Brock's near-fatal situation was a result of his own ricin-laced cigarette lying around. While we know the impact of this on Walter and Jesse's relationship, we don't know what happened to Brock exactly, but fan theories suggest the orphaned kid is most likely alive and will be crucial to the plot of the film. If the photo of the mother and son are pinned at a police station, it's possible that the police are keeping tabs on the child to track down Jesse, or could possibly use him as a bait for the same.

The other very interesting aspect of the trailer is an extreme long shot of two men by the river. While it is difficult to nail the coffins on who they could be, theories suggest it could be the rumored return of Walter and Mike Ehremantrout into the movie. Given that Mike died on the show and Walter supposedly met the same fate later, it's possible that this is a flashback where the two men could have discussed something consequential about Jesse's life. Also to be noted here is Mike's final moments on the show, where he and Walter were seen by the river banks, just moments before Walter shot Mike, so it's quite likely that this flashback is from those very moments.

The next Easter Egg has to be a dead body covered in a blanket or tarp, lodged in Jesse's car, as he attempts to dig up the ground deep within the desert. Long human hair can be seen sticking out from the covered object, leading us to believe it is a woman in there. But that's about it as we'll have to wait till the film releases to find out whose body Jesse is taking such extreme pains to bury. And speaking of other questions that have our interests piqued - right at the end of the trailer, a heavy voice asks Jesse in a very somber tone, "Are you ready?", to which he replies in the positive. Again, we don't know whose voice it could be, but here's hoping that it is Walter's after he somehow managed to survive shooting himself in the guts, all the way back in 'Felina.'

'El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie' premieres on Friday, October 11, only on Netflix.
