'Dublin Murders' Episode 8: Has Rob really caught Katy's killer or is he wrong about this too?

Our disdain for Rob started with him treating Cassie (Sarah Greene) like an outcast after sleeping with her. It was clear that he had some feelings for her, but chose to push her away like he has done his entire life.

All of Starz's 'Dublin Murders' has centered on Adam. Sure, we met with other characters and got a glimpse into their lives as well, but ultimately, it has all and always been about Adam, who went on to become Detective Rob Reilly (Killian Scott). We meet him when he is trying to solve the murder of a young ballet dancer named Katy (Amy Macken). In the previously aired Episode 7 of the series, we saw Rob deducing that Damien (Jonny Holden) is the killer.

Throughout the series, Damien had pretended to be a helpful witness, who seemed all too eager to help solve Katy's murder and even came off as deeply affected by it. He was a good man, taking care of his sick mother, doing his due diligence as a citizen and was also reliable at his job, but as it turns out, he was covering up his own murder the whole time. At least, that is what Rob's investigation has led us to believe. Should we take it at face value considering everything he has been up to recently?

Our disdain for Rob started with him treating Cassie (Sarah Greene) like an outcast after sleeping with her. It was clear that he had some feelings for her, but chose to push her away like he has done his entire life. Over the last few episodes, we have seen how he is even incapable of expressing some affection to his dying father who only wanted to hold his hand in his final moments. In Episode 7, his mother calls him out on it, tells him that he has been treating the people closest to him poorly because of some made-up memories about his life.

She tells him that all through his childhood he had followed his friends who had bullied him and even as an adult he is unable to stop following them. He remembers them as pure and his family as evil, possibly because he thinks of his friends as people he left behind and his parents as people whom he left behind. All of Rob's adulthood is shaped by this perception of his past, and we wonder if his assessment of how Katy was murdered is also influenced by this past.

The upcoming Episode 8 of the Starz series, which is also the finale will be aired on Sunday, December 29 and it will hopefully answer this question.
