Barrymore described the ongoing trial as a 'seven-layer dip of insanity.’ while adding, "I know that these are two people’s real lives and I know what it’s like to have your life put out in public. I understand all the feelings, but they are actually offering up this information that nobody had to know. This is crazy!”

Her comments about the famed trial drew criticism from social media users, who slammed her for her callous attitude to the matter. Following that, the actor now apologized for her comments. Meanwhile, the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial began on April 11 in Fairfax, Va., and has been airing on TV and live streaming online. Due to this, the trial has sparked widespread attention, with fans following the case's progress. Depp is suing his ex-wife for $50 million over a December 2018 op-ed of The Washington Post in which she referred to herself as a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse.’ Heard did not name Depp in her article but the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star’s attorneys have claimed that the op-ed made it difficult for him to get new film roles.
