A low-level earthquake of 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale rocked the city of San Leandro in California on Friday, February 11, 2022. The earthquake reportedly struck around 3:13 AM local time, at a depth of 3 kilometers. The United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake on their event page, where more details are available. Barely three minutes before that, the Japanese island of Honshu on the other side of the Pacific was struck by another earthquake of 4.1 magnitude. The quake reportedly occurred at a depth of 40 kilometers, and the effect was felt at Iwaki near Fukushima.

Incidents of earthquakes have been quite frequent in the Pacific region in the past few weeks. On January 27, the Polynesian island of Tonga was hit by a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, just two weeks after the country was hit by the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai volcano eruption, which was considered more powerful than the Hiroshima atomic bomb. The earthquake came right after a tsunami that left at least three people dead alongside destroying homes across the country.

California could be hit by a much bigger earthquake within days, say experts even as 5.4 aftershock jolts region

As per the latest reports, no casualties happened at the San Leandro and Honshu earthquakes. There was no initial report of damage or injury among the people as well. The Honshu earthquake was slightly higher in magnitude than San Leandro. Some reports state the Honshu earthquake to be of 3.8 magnitude, while others have reported it to be 4.1.

"I have received multiple notices about the San Leandro #earthquake and there was one on the other side of the Pacific on Honshu, Japan. They happened within three minutes of each other," a Twitter user reported, sharing a map of the epicenter.

Social media users also engaged in some light-hearted humor over the San Leandro earthquake as they urged people not to get worried over a small-scale tremor.

"The damages from the 2022 San Leandro Earthquake are still being assessed at the moment, but experts believe in could be in the tens of dollars," a user shared, along with a photo of a plastic chair toppled on the ground.

Another user noted, "Didn’t feel the San Leandro #earthquake here in San José. My cat didn’t have any reaction either, though, at his age, a reaction of any kind would be noteworthy."

A third user shared a video footage from their home at the time of the earthquake, noting, "#✌️in the last week in San Leandro. 3.3 but this one didn’t jolt the house quite as much. Can always count on the animals to scatter tho! (Video sound has a delay) #earthquake #SanLeandro."
