Sarah Ferguson says she doesn't 'really know' Meghan Markle contradicting ex-royal's friendship claims
YORK, ENGLAND: Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, in a recent interview, claimed that she 'really hasn't met' Meghan Markle after the Dutch and Duchess of Sussex claimed that it was Fergie who taught Meghan to curtsy to the Queen.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Fergie revealed that she 'doesn't know' Meghan by saying, "I don’t really know Meghan. I haven’t really met her." Besides this, the Duchess of York said that she did speak to Meghan at the Queen's funeral in September 2022 and talked about how beautiful she looked.

The Sussexes' claim
Fergie's claim comes in direct contradiction to the Sussexes who have both claimed that she has been very friendly to them. In the Oprah Winfrey interview, which was broadcast in early 2021, Meghan Markle revealed that Fergie was quite friendly to them compared to other members of the royal family and that she was the person who taught her to curtsy.
She claimed that when she went to meet the late Queen for the first time at The Royal Lodge in Windsor, she 'didn't even know how to curtsy' and was shocked when Prince Harry explained it was expected of her.
Meghan said, "I went into it naively because I didn't grow up knowing much about the royal family. I didn't fully understand what the job was. I didn't know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car and we were going to the Royal Lodge for lunch and he [Harry] was like, "Oh, my grandmother is here, she's gonna be there after church." "Right in front of the house, we practiced and ran in." Fergie ran out and said, "Do you know how to curtsy?"' she continued. After this, Meghan claimed that they sat together and chatted.
In his book Spare, Harry wrote, "Fergie came outside, somewhat aflutter, and said, "Do you know how to curtsy?" Meghan shook her head. Fergie demonstrated once. Meghan imitated her."
"As we walked towards the door, Fergie and I both leaned into Meghan, whispering quick reminders. When you first meet the Queen, it’s Your Majesty. Thereafter, it’s just ma'am. Rhymes with ham. Just, whatever you do, don’t talk over her, we both said, talking over each other," he added. After Meghan met the Queen, Harry writes that they stayed at Royal Lodge for drinks.
'She has made Harry very happy'
Despite them disagreeing on how much they have come into contact, Fergie has nothing but compliments for Meghan. In the same Telegraph interview, she praised Meghan for making Harry happy and said, "She has made Harry very happy, and that is so nice. Honestly, he’s so happy with her. She really loves him. And I think that’s beautiful."
