Why was Donald Trump reading from teleprompter? POTUS concedes election for the first time after Capitol riots

After getting blocked by Twitter for 12 hours on Wednesday, January 6, President Donald Trump came back to the social media platform with a video, where he condemned the Capitol Hill storming. As soon as the Internet got a hold of the video, they suspected that the POTUS is speaking while looking at a teleprompter.

In the video, released more than 24 hours after Wednesday's riot, Trump called for "healing and reconciliation" and said the country must move forward. "Serving as your president has been the honor of my lifetime," he said flatly. "And to all of my wonderful supporters, I know you are disappointed. But I also want you to know that our incredible journey is only just beginning."

According to a report by CNN, a White House counsel in discussions with senior officials said Trump recorded the video only because his presidency is threatened by looming resignations and potential impeachment. "I think that video was done only because almost all his senior staff were about to resign, and impeachment is imminent," the adviser said.

"That message and tone should have been relayed election night... not after people died," the adviser added. The article further throws light on the fact that Trump delivered the video in monotone and read his lines from a teleprompter taped in the Rose Garden. The article also alleged that most of the part in the video was ad-libbed and did not accomplish what many of his advisers had hoped, which was to tamp down the violence and accusations the President had incited.

With just 13 days left for Biden's inauguration, Trump's comments in the video amounted to as much of a concession as he is likely to offer before he leaves the White House for good. "A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensure a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power," he said in the video.

As soon as the Internet noticed these points in the video, they started reacting to it. As political activist, Evan McMullin, wrote, "Is anyone still falling for Teleprompter Trump?" Another one wrote, "Y’all know by now that 'teleprompter Trump' is always fake temporary Trump right? Give him a few hours."

While a user said, "Trump read off that teleprompter with all the sincerity of a teenager forced to apologize for leaving a flaming bag of dog sh*t on his neighbor's porch," another wrote, "Every single time Trump does one of these 'responsible', scripted hostage-style videos where he reads from a teleprompter, he'll contradict himself on Twitter a few hours later in some batsh*t rant. You can set your watch to it."

Slamming Trump, a user said, "Whoever believes that Trump has a 'new tone' or gives two sh*ts about what happened yesterday or Covid-19 victims can fk right off. The teleprompter speech he gave tonight was to save his own a**."

Journalist David Leavitt wrote, "Trump conceded with a speech that wasn't written by him read from a teleprompter. Now it's time for him to resign and go f**k himself, and for Twitter to ban him. #TrumpConceded #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy #RemoveTrumpNow #ImpeachTrumpNow"
