What will it cost to fix Trump's jet? Ex-POTUS dubbed 'too broke' to repair his 'gold-plated' Boeing 757

Trump has stopped paying for the maintenance services for his private jet that lies abandoned in a NY airport. The cost to fix it could reach well into the high six-figures

Former president Donald Trump's prized possession, his 'gold-plated' private Boeing 757 is reportedly idling in an airport in Orange County, New York. Allegedly the jet is just rotting away because it is in dire need of fixing and maintenance work.

CNN reports that Trump's private plane is so far gone that Trump isn't even willing to spend the money to fix it. Social media however thinks the issue is him not being able to afford the cost of fixing it rather than him not wanting to fix it. "One engine is missing parts. The other is shrink-wrapped in plastic," reported Kate Bennett and Pete Muntean. "The cost to fix and get it flyable could reach well into the high six-figures, a price-tag Trump doesn't appear to be dealing with right now. Though the current state of his finances aren't public, the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the hospitality industry home to so many of his businesses."

Donald Trump neglected to repair and replace engine of private jet as he 'didn't think he'd need it' until 2025

Will Donald Trump's private jet and choppers be a downgrade from Air Force One after he steps down as POTUS?

Why won't Trump fix his private jet?

As previously reported by MEAWW, Trump decided to eschew repairs because he didn't think he'd need the plane for another few years. Accustomed to flying in the Air Force Once flight during the term of his presidency, Trump had refrained from spending on maintenance services for his private jet.

The reason was tweeted by Jon Ostrower, the editor in chief of The Air Current who said in December: "I’m told that there has been a hunt for a single Rolls-Royce RB211 engine needed for one cycle, which is to say one takeoff and one landing for the 757. The tipster tells me that it wasn’t kept service ready because, well, the president 'didn’t think he’d need it again for another four years.'"

Sharing the news of the plane's despair, Bennett also tweeted the report through her social media, noting "Once a symbol of his wealth and prestige, Donald Trump's 757 is now idle, in disrepair, for months left on a ramp in a random New York state airport."

After that, social media users took their no-holds-bar pot-shots at the Ex-POTUS, who has been living in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Most of them found Trump's inability to fix the plane hilarious.

'Too broke to fix it'

One quipped "He's too broke to fix it." Another mused "I don't know which is funnier, that Trump has a 30 yr old mothballed jet that used to be owned by a budget Mexican airline or that he couldn't pay a few thousand a month to keep it maintained, to the point that it can't even fly." A third user claimed "Like most things in his orbit, he probably does not “own” it, is ignoring his debts on it, and will leave others holding the bag at the end of the day. It was always a symbol of ego, not wealth."

As for what lies in store for the plane, one believes "that will end up being sold for scrap to cover his hair dye and spray tan needs." Others suggested "Maybe he can sell it for scraps to help pay for his numerous criminal and civil lawsuits that are coming? Lol" Another tweeted: "his Save America super pac is flush with millions in small donations from big lie fund raising, surely this gilded bird will fly again"

Some found way too much humour in the turn of events, joked "I'm not a mechanic but I know problems are bigger with that plane than they let on. Like with a car. Belts, hoses, gaskets etc dry rot and need to be replaced. If that plane were to fly, it would come down hard." Others satirized Bennett's tweet and shared "Once a symbol of wealth and prestige, Donald Trump is now idle, in disrepair, for the next few years will be lip-synching Toby Keith songs to a small gathering of family hangers-on at his shabby palace in Florida."
