President Donald Trump voiced his opposition to another massive coronavirus relief package, a day after the Senate failed to pass the Republican "skinny" relief bill. Trump accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer of rejecting the bill in a move to hurt his chances of re-election ahead of the US presidential election.

Hitting at the Democratic House speaker and senator, Trump took to Twitter and wrote, "Pelosi and Schumer want Trillions of Dollars of BAILOUT money for Blue States that are doing badly, both economically and in terms of high crime, as a condition to making a deal on stimulus - But the USA is coming back strong!”

However, this didn’t sit well with netizens with many taking to the micro-blogging website to express their disappointment over Trump’s recent tweet. A huge number of users pointed out that Blue states pay for the majority of entitlement programs and also pay most of the bills in this country. Many even said that someone please remind the president that the Blue states are part of the United States of America.

One user wrote, "Blue states pay much more into the pot than Red states do. All they want is a fair share. I know you don't care about blue states because they won't help re-elect you but you are supposed to be the President for ALL AMERICANS." Another one tweeted, "Listen, you grifter. Blue states pay most of the bills in this country, while red states do all the taking. Here’s an illustration.”

"Blue States pay for the majority of entitlement programs that people in Red States depend on because it's called the UNITED States," wrote another user expressing disappointment. Another one tweeted, "It's time for America to elect a president who serves all the people of our nation, including those who do not vote for or agree with him. We need leadership that does not divide Orange States -vs- Blue States."

Another seemingly upset user wrote, "The Blue States has been bailing Red State broken illiterate asses since 1865. Red states take in 2x as much $ from the feds than they put in. Blue States get half." One user pointed out that Blue states contribute most to the US GDP and wrote, "Trump says that Blue states are economically weak. Top by GDP per capita: 1) DC 2) New York 3) Massachusetts 4) Connecticut 5) California 6) Washington 7) Delaware The top seven and six of the next nine are all Blue. The bottom eight states are all Red. Trump is always wrong.”

Another one, echoing similar sentiments, wrote, "The top 7 states that contribute most to the US GDP are all blue states. The bottom 8 states that contribute the least to the point that they take the most are all red. You be the judge. Facts don’t lie.” Another user tweeted, “YOU ARE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. THIS INCLUDES BLUE STATES!”

This comes after Pelosi on September 11 said that she was “optimistic” about Congress passing coronavirus relief legislation before the November 3 presidential election, CNN reported. "I’m optimistic. I do think that we should have an agreement. That’s what we all want," Pelosi said. Pelosi spoke about the possibility of a deal before November 3 as coronavirus stimulus negotiations have hit a standstill between Democrats and Republicans.

The US Senate on September 10 rejected a Republican bill that was designed to provide around $300B in new coronavirus aid, as Democrats seeking far more funding, around $3 trillion, prevented it from advancing. Speaking about the bill, Pelosi said she was proud to see Schumer "reject that terrible skinny bill to a massive problem that we have". Democrats have sought for spending $2.2 trillion on the next relief package, but the White House has stated that a bill of that size is not possible.

Trump accused Pelosi and Democrats of rejecting the bill in a move to hurt his chances of re-election. Trump said Pelosi and Schumer "don’t want to pass a stimulus bill because they think that helps me in the election", reported CBS News. The defeated bill would have renewed a federal unemployment benefit, but at a lower level than what Democrats sought. The bill would also have set new protections for businesses against lawsuits during the pandemic. Trump’s handling of the novel coronavirus has become a focus of the 2020 presidential election in which he trails Democratic rival Joe Biden in several opinion polls. The deadly virus has led to the deaths of more than 190,000 people in the US and more than 910,000 worldwide.
