Trump Buddha statues sell like hot cakes on Chinese shopping portal Taobao: 'Make your company great again'

A seller on the Chinese online shopping platform, Taobao has made 100 ceramic statues of Donald Trump that mimics traditional Buddha iconography, selling them for $153 and $613, depending on their size

Fancy owning a ceramic statue of former POTUS Donald Trump? He sure looks awfully calmer than his human counterpart. You can have a miniature version (5 feet) for $153 on the Chinese online shopping platform Taobao. But if you want to make sure everyone notices you have Trump's Buddha avatar in your home or office, go for the 14 feet statue. It will cost more, at a pricey $613. The product even as a joke tagline for its listing posted on the site, "Make your company great again!", based on Donald Trump's signature MAGA slogan. 

While the statue shows Trump with his trademark hairdo, it has, uncharacteristically, a rather peaceful expression on his face. His hands are seen resting on his lap, referencing the traditional iconography of Buddhist statues in China. As per an Insider report, the figurine's description says: "Trump, who knows Buddhism better than anyone."

But, the statue is not the only Trump merch on sale. There's a Trump toilet brush that can be purchased as a pack of three for a paltry $2. Global Times reached out to the seller who said most people who bought the statue did so for "fun", and although there were only 100 statues made, "dozens" of orders were coming in. 

There were quite a few reactions on social media about the statue. "An honest slogan would be 'Bankrupt Your Company'. A statue of Trump as Buddha is trending on China's online shopping platform Taobao with the slogan 'make your company great again,'" read one of the tweets.

Trump was a peace president and that didn't bode well in DC so they crucified him," one of the comments read.

A buyer told the publication the reason behind his purchase. "Trump can also be regarded as a representative of an era and extreme egoism. Now the era has passed but I want the statue to remind me: Don't be too Trump," he said.

On his last day as President, Trump delivered a speech that saw his supporters express bitter disappointment that his term had come to an end. "I want to thank you for your effort, your hard work," he said, adding, "people have no idea how hard this family worked and they worked for you. They could have had a much easier life but they did a fantastic job."

He also gave the stage briefly to Melania Trump, who said, "Being your First Lady was my greatest honor. Thank you for your love and support. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all, God bless your families and God bless this beautiful nation," she said.
