President Donald Trump’s campaign is seeing a steep competition from Joe Biden in the run-up to the November 3 presidential election. The embattled incumbent and his team have faced a number of challenges -- ranging from containing the coronavirus pandemic to the race riots -- and Trump has made sure that he attacks his presumptive opponent to keep the spirit high among his followers.

In the latest ad released by Trump’s campaign, Biden has been projected as a sorry figure -- "alone", “hiding” and "diminished" in the basement at his Delaware residence. The 77-year-old former Vice-President has run his campaign mostly from the confines of his home-based studio as the pandemic has worsened and Trump and his loyalists have made it a point to regularly assail the Democrat on this point.

Biden, on his part, has slammed the president over his handling of the pandemic that has affected nearly five million people in the US and claimed more than 150 lives. He has accused Trump of not doing his job but focusing on lighter things like playing golfs.

Are Biden's images in video real?

However, the ad on Biden invited reaction from observers on Twitter who said the images shown in it were heavily manipulated and that showing the former veep “alone” and “in his basement” was actually clicked in a room that was full of audience. It was also said that the image showing Biden sitting on the floor was actually from a football-watching party in Iowa. The picture was morphed to show that the veteran was sitting on the floor of an empty room. Another image showed Biden in a “basement” but it was claimed that the man was actually at an outdoor event and speaking with a mic. The original picture showed him pausing to scratch his head or adjust the sunglasses but the picture shown in the ad reportedly removed the mic and projected the man in a negative light.

The ad also claimed that Biden refused to answer questions over his “crazy far-Left ideas”, seeing a “massive tax increase”, “allowing China and Mexico to steal” US jobs, providing “amnesty to illegal immigrants and letting them compete for American jobs,” etc. It said Biden has no answers and after “five decades of failure, he never will”. However, the Biden campaign also came under the scanner for allegedly manipulating a video to target Trump, The Washington Post reported.

In April, the Trump campaign came up with a video on YouTube titled “Biden Stands Up for China” in which Biden was accused of being pro-China even as the US suffered from the pandemic that the Trump administration tried to show as the Asian power’s fault. "Biden stands up for China while China cripples America,” it said.

Meanwhile, even as both the major parties are fancying their chances ahead of the November election, a report in the BBC said that though national polls provide good guidance as to how popular a candidate is across the nation overall, they do not necessarily predict the result of the election.
