Don Jr trolled for saying Covid-19 deaths are 'almost nothing', Internet says 'cocaine stash down to nothing too'
Donald Trump Jr appeared on Fox News on Thursday, October 29, and insisted that deaths from the coronavirus pandemic had dropped to “almost nothing” in the United States, despite the fact that more than 1,000 Americans had died from the virus the very same day.
Making his appearance wearing a pullover emblazoned with his first name, he claimed on 'The Ingraham Angle' that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was focusing on infections instead of deaths caused by the virus because “the numbers are almost nothing", adding that “we’ve gotten control” of the situation due to therapeutics. “If you look at my Instagram, it’s gone to almost nothing,” he continued. “We’ve gotten a hold of it.”

The clip of his statement went viral on Twitter, with multiple journalists and other people reacting to it and calling out Don Jr for his inaccuracies. CNN's Jake Tapper posted, "'The number (of deaths) is almost nothing, because we’ve gotten control of this,' Don Jr says. So far today, Johns Hopkins has reported 87,164 new cases and 951 reported deaths. TODAY. With a total of 228,636 deaths. Lie after lie after lie after lie." He wrote in another tweet, "No news media organization is perfect or infallible but the number of sheer lies continuously told on Fox downplaying this pandemic — with zero pushback — is shocking."
Researcher and journalist Simon Hedlin tweeted, "The reason Don Jr. thinks it's 'almost nothing' is because he is looking death certificate data that he doesn't understand. 37% of all deaths are reported after 10 days, and when they are reported it takes another 7 days to code them. Any recent CDC number is artificially low," adding in a separate tweet, "In CDC's own words: 'Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more.'"
One of the users wrote, “'The number (of deaths) is almost nothing, because we’ve gotten control of this,' @DonaldJTrumpJr says today. Today. Over 80k new cases, 1k dead, and 47k hospitalized is not controlled! @realDonaldTrump legacy is to be remembered as the biggest mass murderer in US history."
Another referred to the fact that many suspected that Don Jr might be addicted to drugs — an assumption that started after Trump's eldest son was seen teary-eyed and worn out at the Republican National Convention. "The cocaine stash is down to nothing too," the user commented. One more said, "Don Jr. is definitely not on cocaine...that jaw is just dancing on its own." One more said, "It's been a rough 4 years. Maybe lay off the cocaine@DonaldJTrumpJr."
Another user said, "Who are 'these people, who are truly morons,' @DonaldJTrumpJr? If you want your father to win votes, I don't think telling the families of the people who died 'that's it's almost nothing' will agree with you. The more you speak, the more votes your father loses." The next said, "Fox viewers are being fed this, nodding their heads, probably laughing a little & will go out in their communities tomorrow, maskless, feeling safer than ever. It's a criminal show."
