Doctors claim boy, 10, could not have got 13-year-old girl pregnant because he cannot produce sperm cells
Russian doctors are insisting that a 13-year-old girl who went viral after becoming pregnant couldn't have been fathered by a 10-year-old boy.
The schoolgirl, identified as Darya, often shows off her baby bump on social media after claiming she was impregnated by a pre-pubescent boy named Vanya, Mirror reports.
Darya was only 13 when she realized she was pregnant. At the time, she strongly denied reports on social media that she had confessed to police the biological father of her child was two years older than her. The teenager's story made waves across the internet and her claims were even highlighted in a show on national TV that the father of her child was, in fact, aged ten.
However, medical expert Dr Evgeny Grekov, who claims to have examined Vanya (Ivan), says it is impossible for him to impregnate a female at this stage. “There cannot be sperm cells. He is still a child," the urology and andrology expert said. “We rechecked the laboratory results three times so there cannot be any mistake," he added.
In February this year, several Russian outlets reported that Darya had confessed to conjuring the story about Vanya so she could hide that she had been raped by a 15-year-old boy named Stepan. But the teenager has strongly denied those claims and is sticking to her original story of Vanya being the real father of her child.
“First of all, I don’t even know any Stepan…” she told her more than 60,000 followers on social media. She explained that the attack couldn't have occurred where it was supposed to have taken place as "there are cameras everywhere." Furthermore, she trashed reports about a supposed 15-year-old father as "complete nonsense," adding there had been no DNA tests to establish her baby's paternity. “I’ll tell you more later …(including) why they said that Vanya is not fertile," Darya told her social media followers.
Meanwhile, Vanya's mother Galina has said she believes her son "is the father."
"I understand that he himself maybe doesn't realise what happened," she added. Darya has become a social media star in Russia and has made clear she is determined to keep the baby, who is expected to have a caesarean birth.
The teenager reportedly regularly shares photos and videos with the hashtag #PregnantAt13 on almost every post. According to local reports, Darya is willing to work with big brands and sponsors as she plans to monetize her social media accounts to become an online "influencer."
Her mother Elena, who recently announced she has terminal cancer, says she's going to fight it in order to be there for her pregnant daughter. "Initially, we thought she had food poisoning, but slowly we started to realize that whatever was happening had nothing to do with her belly," she said. "We then bought a pregnancy test and it showed up positive."
Despite her trying circumstances, Elena said she never considered abortion as an option for Darya. She was concerned her daughter may not be able to conceive children later in life. Elena plans to stay around as long as possible despite her terminal condition so she can take care of her daughter's baby.
"Now I have a reason to live," she said.
