Is 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' the WORST MCU film? Critics destroy movie
'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' is officially a damp squib, or at least that is what critics have to say. The much-awaited Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen-starrer's first reviews ranged from mediocre to outlandish. Minus the few moments here and there that it received scanty praise for, the MCU flick has been labeled as the worst Marvel movies to have been made.
Starring Cumberbatch and Olsen in pivotal roles, the sequel is set after the events of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' that sees the repercussions of Strange's time-tampering. The official synopsis reads, "To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers' most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone."

The New York Post had quite the things to say, but it got to the point pretty quickly. "‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ review: One of the year’s worst," it said with journo Johnny Oleksinski adding that the sequel had "no drive to the character and his incomprehensible story." Seconding this was critic Paul Grimes. "Marvel takes a BIG swing with Doctor Strange. Elizabeth Olsen absolutely delivers and Raimi has his stamp all over it, but there’s a disjointed and chaotic rush to it."

The Direct's Liam Crowley said the movie does fall flat despite the thrills it offered. "Doctor Strange throws a lot at the wall: some sticks (surprisingly simple narrative), some falls flat (mostly w/ CGI). Olsen crushes but Gomez is my rockstar. Cumberbatch reeeally feels like the “anchor of the MCU” throughout. Not perfect, but a worthwhile experience." Film critic Josie Marie tweeted, "Ultimately wasn't a big fan of #DoctorStrange in the #MultiverseOfMadness , but one thing's for sure: it's a stylistic buffet. Started off rather tame, but it got crazier as it went on. It had some laughs, fun visuals, and an entertaining score."

Mashable gave it a rather mixed review saying "The MCU gets gory, gloppy, and truly shocking!" as did Variety. "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” is a ride, a head trip, a CGI horror jam, a what-is-reality Marvel brainteaser and, at moments, a bit of an ordeal. It's a somewhat engaging mess, but a mess all the same," the outlet said in its review. Daniel Rutledge from Flicks.co,nz called it dull: "The convoluted narrative about multiple MacGuffins and multiple universes that only make sense if you’ve seen every MCU TV show and film prior all added up to a rather dull experience for me."
