DNC 2020: #DrBiden trends after Jill's moving speech, Internet asks Melania 'she really does care, do you?'
Minutes after Dr Jill Biden, wife of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, delivered her address at the Democratic Party's convention on Tuesday, August 18, #DrBiden began trending on social media. Jill offered a deeply personal endorsement of her husband during her speech, which she gave standing in an empty classroom where she taught English in the 1990s. Her speech was widely appreciated on social media and users even drew a comparison between her and First Lady Melania Trump, slamming the latter.
"We’ve heard more from Dr Biden in these 3 minutes than we’ve heard from M*lania in 4 years," a user wrote on Twitter.

Jill, speaking from a high school classroom in Wilmington, Delaware, described "the anxiety that echoes down empty hallways" in the midst of the coronavirus crisis and the uncertainty schools are facing as they ruminate whether to resume in-person teaching amidst the pandemic. "The burdens we carry are heavy, and we need someone with strong shoulders,” she said. “If we entrust this nation to Joe, he will do for your family what he did for ours: Bring us together and make us whole, carry us forward in our time of need, keep the promise of America, for all of us."
Many lauded Jill's move to give her speech from a classroom. One user wrote: "Brilliant move for Dr Biden to deliver her speech from a classroom when Trump's gross incompetence has led to empty classrooms across the nation."

Actor Mark Hamill also appreciated Jill's speech and took a sly dig at Melania for wearing a controversial jacket reading "I don't care, do you?" while visiting a migrant child detention center in Texas. "'How do you make a broken family whole? The same way you make a nation whole — with love and understanding.' — Jill Biden @DrBiden This is what a First Lady sounds like. She really DOES care. Do U?" Hamill wrote.

One wrote, suggesting that Melania was "an empty trophy wife": "Imagine an actual educated woman as First Lady with doctorate, not an expressionless photo prop. I'm sure Dr. Biden not going to be an empty trophy wife in loveless marriage crating #BeBest campaign that does absolutely NOTHING but wasting tax payer money on remodeling Rose garden."

Jill, in her speech, drew parallels with her husband’s experience leading his family through personal adversity and stated that Biden, in a similar way, had the ability to lead the nation through the current crises, including economy, health and unemployment. After Jill made her address at the DNC, former Vice President Joe Biden joined her in the classroom and lauded her qualities as a potential first lady. Biden said: "For all of you out there across the country, just think of your favourite educator who gave you the confidence to believe in yourself. That's the kind of first lady... Jill Biden will be."
