SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Far-right radio personality Charles J Kirk in a lengthy Twitter rant on Tuesday claimed that "thousands of pedophiles in California are going free after just a few months in jail" because of California State Senator Scott Wiener.

Kirk tweeted, "Thousands of pedophiles in California are going free after just a few months in jail, thanks to the state's radically reduced penalties for child molestation. One reason many of these predators are going free early is California lawmaker Scott Wiener." The tweet included a picture of a shirtless Wiener, wearing just a vest and tie in the street.

Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco, hit back at Kirk over the remarks which he characterized as "homophobic", and which he claims have led to death threats against him. Wiener shared an image of a threat note and wrote, "Not even 24 hours after MAGA grifter Charlie Kirk tweeted homophobic lies about me, I received this threat repeating one of his lies. But that was the point: Riling people up against me & other LGBTQ people. Words have consequences & Twitter is becoming a cesspool for this crap."

The note he shared read, "It's a shame you come out and you're trying to release all these pedophiles. You're okay with people intentionally giving other people AIDS. And your office can't even pick up the phone to answer about these questions."

The post went on to say, "You're sick, man. I don't even call you. You shouldn't even be a man. You're a sick individual. I don't care about what you do off hours, but when you try to force it upon California, it's like myself and others. You'll have something coming to you. People like you won't be able to walk down the streets when the light comes to the darkness that you're fucking providing you piece of shit."

However, Wiener was immediately slammed for the "evidence" he shared on Twitter as a user noticed a cursor (|) at the end of the post. According to the user, the cursor indicated that the senator himself wrote the post and later shared it on Twitter. The user tweeted, "What is that | at the end?"

Another user wrote, "You know what? @Scott_Wiener is having a rough night tonight. I'd like to do something to cheer him up. How about a Subway sandwich, Scott?" Another user criticized him, "This California state senator seriously tried to fake hate mail but included his cursor and the grammar lines in his screenshot. Unreal."

In 2020, Wiener drafted SB 145, which would remove LGBTQ youth from the sex offender registry and "end discrimination against LGBTQ young people." As long as the individual convicted was no more than ten years older than the minor and the juvenile is no less than 14, the measure established exceptions for people who were convicted of "certain offenses," as reported by PM News.
