Did Melania Trump have a photoshoot during Capitol riot? Here's the truth as Internet calls her a 'disgrace'

'Photos were being taken of rugs and other items in the Executive Residence and the East Wing,' a source said

As thousands of President Donald Trump supporters streamed into Washington, DC, on January 6 to hear him speak and then attacked the US Capitol, first lady Melania Trump was reportedly doing a photoshoot at the White House.

Professional photography lighting could be seen from the windows of the White House. "Photos were being taken of rugs and other items in the Executive Residence and the East Wing," a person familiar with the day's activities of the first lady told CNN. Melania has previously expressed interest in writing a coffee table book about decorative objects she has gathered and had restored in the White House and was overseeing the photo project, the source said.

At the time when the first lady was doing the photoshoot, just a few blocks away, Trump supporters were swarming the US Capitol in a riot that her husband ignited earlier that day at the rally. The first lady was busy with White House chief conductor Timothy Harleth in order to get the photoshoot completed. Media and members of her staff were asking if Melania had plans to tweet a statement of calm or a call to stop the violence — something she had done a handful of times months earlier during the protests surrounding the police killing of George Floyd. She did not. One White House source defended her saying, "She just isn't in a place mentally or emotionally anymore where she wants to get involved."

As soon as the news made its way to social media, people started slamming Melania. One user said, "What a joke we are! Melania doing a photoshoot for her book while Hubby is rooting his followers on to a coup. A book, after 'Be Best' she tries to write a book?" Another said, "Melania Trump had a White House photoshoot for her book while the Capitol was under siege: report Yet another tone-deaf hypocritical move on the part of the Naked FLOTUS (there are pictures, yeah there really are). She is a disgrace to her role." One more added, "Great one last photoshoot before you go...."

Will you join me in making sure that book is never published?"
