‘Yellowstone’ star Kevin Costner has found himself in the middle of a controversy after US Representative and Republican party member Liz Cheney shared the actor’s picture on her official Twitter account, touting the endorsement of the highly-acclaimed actor. As soon as she uploaded the picture, a lot of people claimed that it must have been a fake picture, but it seems that they are wrong.

The picture is undoubtedly of Costner and in it, he can be seen wearing a t-shirt that says, “I’m for Liz Cheney”. Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, captioned the photo as, “Real men put country over party”, and wreaked havoc on social media. The photo went viral on social media in no time and a lot of people started bashing Costner for supporting Cheney. However, the real loser in the matter turned out to be Costner’s blockbuster hit show ‘Yellowstone’. The Paramount show has been one of the finest shows in recent years and received universal acclaim.

But it seems a lot of fans are trying to move away from the show after the aforementioned picture and flooded social media with comments that might hurt the show’s chances to get better ratings. Social media users criticized the actor for allegedly endorsing Liz Cheney and noted that they won’t be seeing the show from now on. One of the users wrote, “And just like that, MAGAs don't like Yellowstone anymore.” Another social media user said, “Time to give up Yellowstone, y'all. If you watch it, you are supporting liars like @lizcheney the murders of Ashli Babbitt and Roseann Boylan and the subsequent coverup, and the jailing without the bond of political prisoners who committed no crime -- NOT EVEN "TRESPASSING.”

Meanwhile, one of the users tweeted, “Dang, Kevin Costner just ruined all my fantasies! @Yellowstone why do actors feel they need to voice their political opinions, especially on something so contentious when their show is about the come out?” Another Twitter user wrote, “Kevin Costner just sunk his Yellowstone tv series. The voters of Wyoming are about to go all Beth Dutton against Cheney.”

“I’ll say it Yellowstone sucks and now I know why,” wrote another one. “And until this very moment, he was one of my favorite actors. How the hell am I going to watch Yellowstone now? Damn it!” wrote another social media user. “Now I have to say F**K Yellowstone and Costner. Of course, what does one expect from a clown that supported Buttegeghig,” tweeted another user. “@Yellowstone was just ruined for me. Forever. Goodbye,” said another one.

Another fan said, “Oh shoot! Why do actors do this!! Ugh! I really loved him in Yellowstone. Now, this has ruined it for me!”

Despite his endorsement, the actor doesn’t consider himself to be a supporter of any particular party and calls himself an “independent”. In an interview with The Daily Beast in August 2020, the actor noted that neither the Democratic party nor the Republican party “represent” how he sees the country and how he wants it to be. He said, “The Democratic Party doesn’t represent anything that I think, and neither does the Republican Party right now — at all.”

As far as ‘Yellowstone’ is concerned, Season 4 of the highly popular show broke viewing records and became one of the most-watched TV shows of all time. More than 11 million viewers tuned in live to watch the last episode of the previous season and got the highest views since the 2017 'Walking Dead' Season 8 premiere.

So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that there is a lot of excitement for Season 5. However, this incident might put a dent to the show’s popularity and a lot of people may not see the show when it returns for another run.
