According to Sergeant Jeff Reese, with the Riverside County sheriff's department, Fisher had been under investigation since January 2021, ever since a fire engulfed the house at 32956 Blackwell Blvd., near Grand Avenue. Fisher of Lake Elsinore was arrested on Thursday, March 18, 2021, and reportedly booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta.
What happened that day?
On January 25, 2021, fire crews responded to Fisher’s home at around 3 pm and found a blazing fire that seemed to originate in the garage, according to local reports.
Fisher was able to escape along with her 90-year-old grandmother, who was in a wheelchair, one of her 16-month-old twins, and three other adults. But two of Fisher’s other children -- 16-month-old Arya Alcarez and 2-year-old Julian Alcarez -- were left behind a baby gate with the family's three dogs. All of them died in the fire, according to the outlet.
Reports revealed that firefighters found a cut power line in the yard in front of the house. A neighbor had reportedly said that the line was “sparking because of the wind". At the time, Fisher had said that she opened the door to the garage that day and saw a fire explode. Her family told the publication that she was able to escape with one of her children and her grandmother but was not able to get back inside to save the others. A neighbor was able to rescue a second child.
According to KTLA, Fisher’s grandmother Phyllis Fisher sustained such severe burns to much of her body that she had to be placed in a medically-induced coma. Three days after the fire, she succumbed to her wounds, according to a release from the coroner’s office.
While Sergeant Reese did not reveal what led detectives to determine Devinn was allegedly responsible for starting the fire, he added that the investigation was still ongoing. The case is expected to be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's office for review.
Who is Devinn Elysee Fisher?
Devinn Elysee was reportedly also injured during the fire but was able to escape. As mentioned earlier, she also managed to get her grandmother and one of her 16-month-old twins out of the fire consuming her house.
She couldn't do much to rescue her other children. Neighbor Elvira Rivero revealed that "All she kept saying is, 'My babies. Get my babies out'" It was Rivero's daughter who was able to rescue one of the babies from the burning home.
Following the incident, two GoFundMe campaigns were set up to help the family, and a spokeswoman for GoFundMe confirmed both were verified. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station (951) 245-3300.
