Spoilers for 'Devils' Episode 1

The CW's latest financial thriller is one of a kind as it fuses drama with the by-products of greed for power.

In the premiere episode of the series, Massimo Ruggero (Alessandro Borghi) finds out that there is more to his boss Dominic (Patrick Dempsey) denying him the promotion than what meets the eye. For the longest time over the course of the last few years, the two had worked side by side at the American New York - London Bank (NYL). Dominic had even praised Massimo for his recent work on the Greek crisis. Or did he?

'Devils' follows the financial downfall of Greece via these characters sitting thousands of miles away apparently profiting from it. A lot of details surrounding it aren't disclosed, only that there is constant talk about someone possibly causing it. As the reporter tells Massimo in the previous episode, the best, most fool-proof way to predict markets is to cause them.

Episode 2 of the series will offer to give us more information about how Massimo made his predictions. According to the official synopsis of the episode, which is titled 'A Tough Decision', "Feeling betrayed and abandoned by Dominic (Patrick Dempsey), Massimo (Alessandro Borghi) devises a plan to create a scandal against NYL and then leave it after cashing in. But, when he is about to publish the exposé, he finds out that Dominic is hiding something. After deciding to stay, Massimo has to cope with a painful event."

While we can make little predictions of what is to come going forward, we're guessing that "the painful event" that is mentioned in the synopsis has something to do with his wife Carrie (Sallie Harmsen).

The reason why Dominic apparently wouldn't give Massimo the promotion was because of his wife. In the previous episode, Massimo finds her overdosed and rushes her to care. But how this goes forward is only going to be revealed in a matter of time.

Starring Laia Costa, Kasia Smutniak, Lars Mikkelsen, Malachi Kirby, Paul Chowdhry, Pia Mechler, and Harry Michell, episode 2 of 'Devils' is directed by Nick Hurran and with story by Ben Harris, Alessandro Sermoneta, Mario Ruggeri, Elena Bucaccio, Guido Maria Brera, Christopher Lunt & Michael A. Walker.

Episode 2 of 'Devils' will air on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at 8 pm on The CW. Episodes of 'Devils' will be available to stream on The CW App and CWTV.com the day after broadcast for free and without a subscription.
