Detroit gunman who killed THREE random strangers on the street nabbed after massive manhunt
DETROIT, MICHIGAN: The hunt for a gunman who randomly shot at least four victims on street, leaving three dead, in a two-and-a-half hour window on Sunday, August 28 morning in Detroit’s northwest side ended with the Detroit Police nabbing the unidentified suspect on Sunday, August 28 night. The FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were all assisting police in their search on Sunday afternoon.
The Detroit Police Department released a statement about the suspect's arrest via Facebook on Sunday evening. "Thank you for your continued support today as our community dealt with the unimaginable fear of an active shooter in our city. We can confirm that the suspect is now in custody", the statement read. "We are still in the early stages of this investigation but we are confident that the suspect in custody is the person responsible for the multiple deadly shootings", it added.

“This did not need to happen," Detroit police Chief James White said in a statement late Sunday. "Once again, Detroiters are reeling after lives were senselessly taken at random from our community. We mourn their loss and pray for those fighting for their lives at this hour. There are more questions than answers, but Detroiters can sleep peacefully tonight knowing this suspect is off the streets." White thanked "the women and men of the Detroit Police Department who put their own lives on the line around the clock to keep us safe. I’d like to also thank our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for their continued collaboration and support."

The suspect was the subject of a massive manhunt on Sunday. As dozens of law enforcement officers fanned out across the west side, helicopters searched near Seven Mile and Woodward Avenue around 2 pm Sunday. White stated at a press conference prior to the arrest that the shootings were carried out by a single suspect and appeared to be random because there was no connection between the four victims.
White described the suspect as a man in his late twenties to early thirties, standing about 5-foot-8 inches tall. A photo of him was released by police in a news release. Mayor Mike Duggan had then urged anyone with information to contact the police. "The suspect already shot four people. Please call immediately. ... Someone out there knows who this is. No one in this department wants a violent confrontation with this individual," Duggan said.
The first victim, a 40-year-old woman, was found with multiple gunshot wounds at Wyoming and Margareta around 4.45 am, according to White. Police later discovered she had died. There were no additional details available. A person approached police at the scene and told them another victim was nearby, and the body of a 28-year-old man with gunshot wounds was discovered at 7.34 am at Seven Mile and Wyoming.
At around 6.50 am, the body of another 40-year-old woman was found on the 19700 block of Livernois. The woman had been waiting for a bus, police said. Another man was shot on Pennington north of Seven Mile around 7.10 am and was in critical condition. According to White, the man saw the suspect looking into vehicles and told him to get away when the suspect shot him.
Megan Owens, who lives on Pennington, reported hearing approximately a dozen shots. "We thought it was fireworks," Owens said. "It's usually very peaceful here", Detroit News reported. She stated that an elderly man walking his dog was bleeding from a leg wound. According to her, the man wrapped his belt around his leg to stop the bleeding and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The dog was bleeding from his paw, and the man's wife took him to a veterinarian.
